"Incognito much?" She asked as my dad nodded, "Does this make me Starsky?" He asked as she began holding out a folder. "Ha. Look, I got it. 'Own your truth' that's what Kelly was hearing in her head. That was her 'set them free'." Michaela stated. I crossed my arms leaning onto the car.
"Her calling. How do you know?" I asked squinting. She began rounding the car to get inside the passengers seat, "Because it called me, too." Michaela answered. I raised my eyebrows giving her a look.
I opened the door getting into the back of the car, and my father got into the drivers seat. "Own your truth, you heard that?" Ben asked concern to his sister. "Yeah, or felt it. It came to me out of the blue." Michaela responded uncertain.
"That's why Kelly did all those interviews." I breathed out slowly, "Yeah, accusing the government of lying—'own your truth' who knows who else she pissed off? She could've made all kinds of enemies." Michaela squinted eyeing both me, and my father.
"We have to go back to the husband." Ben stated fastening his seatbelt, "Yeah. I agree." Michaela said as the engine started. "You in? Or want me to drop you home? I don't want your mom raising questions about your whereabouts with me." Ben said looking through the mirror to stare at me.
"I'm fine. This all is happening to me too, I'll be fine. I'm coming." I nodded assured as he gave a short nod before driving off.
The drive was somewhat quiet, besides me singing to "All Around The World" by Justin Bieber. My aunt, Michaela laughed at me rolling her eyes. "You haven't learned any new songs from him yet?" She teased as I rolled my eyes.
"Give me time; soon I'll be the only girl to know all of them again." I hummed, before the whole being gone for 5 1/2 years I knew every single one of Justin Biebers songs, he was my favorite artist, hands down. I mean who could hate Bieber?
"Alright, alright. Enough." My dad, Ben took a deep breath turning the song off and I pouted looking at the window, "whatever." I mumbled.
—"We have people coming, family. I had to cover the blood stains on the carpet with a throw rug." Patrick, Kelly's husband breathed while drying off a dish. I sighed as did Michaela, we all looked to each other awkwardly.
"Do you recall Kelly ever using the phrase 'own your truth'?" Michaela asked, "As of two days ago, all the time." Patrick responded drying off another dish. "She was saying all kinds of crazy stuff after she came back." He stated.
"Yeah?" I questioned, "Yeah. House is too fancy, we have too much. She wanted a simple life. Bought her this gorgeous necklace. I had to beg her to wear it, and then all of a sudden she's on TV talking about the government? She hated politics." Patrick said shaking his head disapprovingly.
"Did Kelly ever feel like she was in danger?" I questioned tilting my head, the doorbell rang as Patrick took in a heavy breath. "You're talking about the clicking sounds on the phone? Black SUVs on the street? My housekeeper saw them, too." Patrick said as his front door opened and shut.
"Christine, the black SUVs?" Patrick questioned to a woman who walked in, "All day and night. Vern and Susie are here." Christine answered. "Go, go. We can see ourselves out." Ben said to Patrick who nodded and made his way out the kitchen quickly.
"She was under surveillance by the government, by Vance." Ben whispered to Michaela and I. "It's been terrible. Reporters at the door, those people outside with their candles. Did you see them? They refuse to leave." Christine said finishing the dishes that Patrick once worked on.
"What can you tell us about the last few days?" Michaela asked leaning on the island. "How did Kelly spend her time? W-was there anything unusual?" She added stuttering some.
"It's all been unusual. The press appearances, avoiding the followers. Yesterday she got her hair done at the mall. She—when she came back, there were bruises on her arms and she looked upset. She said she'd fallen." Christine said thining her lips.
"Fallen how? What else did she say about that?" I pressed on, "Hey, Christine. Can you help, please? There's more." Patrick said cutting her off as he ran into the room holding a tray. Christine began to follow him out and I sighed.
"Okay, this is now officially inappropriate. Come on, let's go." Ben said to the both of us as we nodded. We followed my dad out the kitchen hearing indistinct conversations becoming closer. People stood in suits, and with black dresses. A somber look was on their faces, and some people sobbed.
Michaela paused and my dad turned to look at her, us both confused with her so sudden halt. It's as if she froze; she wouldn't even move. I placed my hand on her shoulder squinting. "Michaela?" I whispered as she looked to me.
—Me and dad went home after dropping Michaela off. Dad stood at the table checking around the house for wires or bugs that someone could've laid, while I rather so scrolled on Facebook, I smiled as a picture from my mom's account popped up. It was me holding both of the twins when they were babies, I hearted it clicking off.
"It would be nice if you helped." Ben said looking over at me as I gave him a grim look, "Fine." I sighed. He was on the phone with Doctor, Saanvi as he looked. I on the other hand trailed to my own bedroom looking around. After finding nothing I plopped onto the bed and closed my eyes.
