Author's POV

Umaiyazh's phone kept ringing, a call from the man who is now her husband, but she didn't pick up. Instead, she turned off her phone and threw it aside in frustration and anger.

She is currently in the police quarters, in the house assigned to him, which bears his name on the nameplate with pride. She arrived here in the morning, despite her mother's plea to stay at Revathi Illam and wait for her husband to come and fetch her. However, her father insisted she leave, and he personally brought her to the quarters, not allowing anyone to speak further and add to his daughter's confusion.

Umaiyazh was seething with anger, yet she couldn't disregard her father's words. Her frustration peaked when Bairavan departed last night despite her pleas for him to stay. Distraught and furious, she left the venue without eating, went straight to her room at Revathi Illam, locked herself in, and refused to open the door despite her family's persistent knocking. She assured them she wouldn't harm herself and demanded to be left alone. Gratefully, they respected her wishes, including her mother, who thus missed the opportunity to exacerbate Umaiyazh's anger by pushing her buttons.

She remembered what happened in the morning

In the morning, she was awakened by a knock at her door. With a sigh, she decided not to hold her family accountable for his mistakes. She opened the door to find her father standing there, holding her morning coffee. She let him in and returned to sit on the bed. He handed the cup to his daughter and took another for himself.

As he took a sip, he called out her name.

"Umaiyazh!!!!"

Knowing what would be his next question Umaiyazh sighed and spoke

"Appa please, I don't want to talk about him"

"Oh, Let's don't talk about him but you.....what you want to do now papa?"

Mugilan gazed at his daughter, whose disinterest was evident despite her recent marriage. The happiness and radiance typical of a new bride had vanished, replaced by frustration. Umaiyazh glanced up at her father, setting the coffee cup aside.

"Appa, please refrain from advising me now. We were just married yesterday, and he departed immediately, citing an urgent case that required his presence. Couldn't he have taken just one day off for our wedding?...The least I expected from him was to stay, but he left abruptly without even attempting to explain himself or persuade me. You're aware that Amma was initially hesitant about this marriage; when she finally came around and got involved in the ceremonies and post-marriage rituals, he left. I won't consider returning to him until he apologizes, so please don't advocate on his behalf"

Umaiyazh declared and Mugilan looked at his daughter pointedly and nodded his head

"I'm not advocating for him; I'm merely inquiring why my daughter, who was eager to marry this man and insisted on keeping the wedding date despite his multiple requests to postpone due to his busy schedule with cases, has returned home after getting married yesterday, stating she won't go back to her husband. Moreover, why are you now angry with him? Is it because you persuaded him to take a half-day, yet he took a full day off, leaving only after all the guests had left, to resume his duties as a responsible policeman? Or is it because you showed no concern when your mother belittled him and he remained silent out of respect for her? Or because he left quietly without causing a scene over how you and your mother treated him all day like a puppet, enduring it all for his love for you? If these are the reasons, I'm sorry to say I cannot support your decision. Yes, this is your house, and you can come and stay whenever you want, but this behaviour is not acceptable. Resolve the issues with your husband. If you cannot handle your marriage on the first day and return to your home, I doubt you can manage life's challenges. Get ready; I am taking you to his house right now.... "

Mugil declared and stood up leaving his daughter shocked

"Appa.....In a single day you disowning me how?"

Umaiyazh asked. Mugilan looked at her calmly and said

"Because now, you are not Umaiyazh Mugilan alone but also Bairavan's wife. I am not disowning you; I am simply releasing your hands from mine, allowing you to live your life independently. Parents hold their children's hands to teach them to walk, but if they never let go, the children will not learn to run. I can save you from falling and will be there when you need help; you have my support. But I won't hold your hands as you run. You are on your own now, Umaiyazh.....

I was the youngest and the most pampered child in our family. Even Uyir Akka was lenient with me, but when I left for my undergraduate studies, my father said this to me..... From then on, my parents stopped making decisions for me, allowing me to handle things on my own, to fall and stand up without their assistance. You know, for almost four years, I didn't get any cases. I would be at the courthouse premises, asking if anyone needed a lawyer, but no one approached me. Finally, I got a case, and I lost it. But from that point, I rose to build this law firm on my own....Not everything is as easily attained as you might think, Umaiyazh. Only Agathiyan understands the extent of his efforts to establish himself in his profession; his success is due to his diligence, not his family background. Consider how much Aadhavan must accomplish to prove he's deserving of the CEO position. Think about the challenges Amudhan faces to show that his muteness does not define his capabilities. Reflect on how much Agni must work to honor Periyanni's legacy, and how much Shiva must strive to demonstrate his unique talents, distinct from his brothers. Similarly, all your sisters-in-law have their own battles, Umaiyazh. What appears shiny and like a fairytale success from afar is quite different up close. It's not all about you, Umaiyazh. Perhaps we are to blame for not teaching you how the world works, for being too lenient, but now you've chosen this difficult path on your own, and you must navigate it without our help.........."

He paused, as Umaiyazh remained silent. Letting out a deep sigh, he spoke with a decisive tone, "Get ready, pack your things; we are leaving after breakfast."

He exited the room, leaving his daughter behind, who was engulfed in confusion, uncertain if her decision was the right one. After a moment, she turned her gaze to the bag she had packed the day before yesterday.

After preparing, she descended with her bag. Maaran assisted her with the other trolley Knowing Geethanjali would protest or say anything to stop Umaiyazh. Mugilan had already silenced her by presenting the divorce papers to sign, leaving her to contemplate her fractured relationship over the impact on her daughters.

No one was aware of the decision to divorce, and Geethanjali chose not to discuss it in front of the family to avoid drama, knowing her husband had the upper hand and every reason to justify his decision. To keep the situation from worsening, she remained in her room when Umaiyazh departed with Mugilan to the police quarters.

Umaiyazh's perception shifted with her mother's departure, leading her to believe her mother was displeased with her. Bairavan's decision to leave only intensified this belief. She found herself disregarding her father's words once more, as acknowledging them would mean admitting her own mistakes—a realization she was unwilling to accept. Instead, she focused on the distressing thought of her mother's disapproval.
