BANANA BREAD!Before we get into that how about a little history?
Banana Bread's History
During the Great Depression (1929-1939) the global economy faced one of the greatest downturns in history, households were not willing to waste not even a single rotten banana,
During these times Baking Powder and Baking Soda had started mass production, and for the first time the Americans had these wonderful leaveners available for pretty much everybody, and not just to high and mighty rich aristocrats!
So then with the combination of overripe bananas and the introduction of Baking agents...
BAM,
BANANA BREAD WAS BORN!
But back then it wasn't all that tasty...
Some recipes having used sour milk and all but a single egg,
Others containing less sugar and fat, while although healthy not the best tasting...
Banana bread was used as war rations back in the 1940's,
And as an actual food staple.
It wasn't until the 1960's did Banana bread become anything close to the delicious treat it is today!
We got the 'Moosewood Cookbook' to thank for that!
They introduced new flavours such as coffee, vanilla, almond and more!
But enough on history!Baking Banana Bread
Let's start with the list of things you'll need:
.A loaf tin (but a cake tin works as well)
. Basic baking necessities (Mixing bowls, Cups, Spoons,Teaspoons, a Whisk, Sifter, An Oven, a Stove, oven mitts, etc.)
. A forkIngredients:
Ripe bananas (don't ask me how many, just enough for two cups of mashed bananas)
76g of butter melted (1/3 cup)
1/2tsp Baking Soda
A pinch of salt
A large egg (idk why recipes always say this just get an egg)
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of white caster sugar
1tsp vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract)
1 and 1/2 cups of flour
And the fun part
Add-ins!
I'm talking chocolate chips, cinnamon, dried fruits, whatever you like ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆Before we get on with the baking please be careful when using knives,
We don't want any bloodshed (o^^o)
And when interacting with the oven please use oven mitts!
Also keep an eye when melting the butter, don't let it burn, just let it melt then remove from the stove. Now firstly we're gonna chop some thin slices of overripe bananas, put'em in a cup and mash'em with a fork,
Once you've got two cups worth of mash bananas, add in the melted butter and mix!Now chuck the backing powder and the sprinkle of salt.
In a small plate crack the egg and beat it (just pop the yolk and combine the egg whites and yolk together).
Add the eggs to the bowl along with the white sugar, brown sugar and vanilla.
Get you flour and sift it into the mix (I do this to assure there are no parasites nor bugs and before you go crying, heck the food you buy in the stores is probably worse I mean red dye NO.4 and E.124)
Now you get to mix in your toppings, or you can keep it plain!
I like to take some of the batter (about five spoons) add some sugar (let's say 2tsp) and a generous pinch of cinnamon,
And create a cinnamon sugar swirl within!
Looks pretty nice and nothing says cozy better than cinnamon and chocolate!Pour your batter into your tin, if you want grease it down, or add some baking paper so the banana bread doesn't stick to the pan. Just save your self the trouble.
If you have a spray use it, if you have baking paper fit it, if you still have some butter using a kitchen brush just give the pan a light coat, whatever you do please don't just pour the batter in.With that done wait for your oven to heat up to 175 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Then just pop that in the oven for about an hour, poke with a skewer to make sure it is fully cooked before removing from the oven.
Eat it with maple syrup, or chocolate spread, crushed nuts, whipped cream.
I don't know go crazy.
Be warned if you live with a large family hide yourself a slice.
The loaf will disappear.I'd love to know any changes or substitutions you may have made and how your bread turned out!
Anyways,
That's all!
I'd love to hear your feed back!
