I looked into Lisa's eyes as she laughed. I'd always had a crush on her. She was my best friend, but I wanted to be more.
From the first day that we met in English class in first year of secondary school. I was sat next to her and was mesmerised by her. She had beautiful hazel eyes and light brown hair.
"Hi," she said and smiled at me. I was stunned, she actually wanted to talk to me.
But I managed to keep my cool and said "H-hi," Good. Only a slight stutter.
"So what do you think of this?" She asked, indicating to the book in her hands. It was Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
"It's alright I suppose. It could have been worse." I said, rearranging my glasses.
"Seriously?" She scoffed. "I hate Shakespeare." And went back to her work.
After that, we became best friends. It didn't matter that we were polar opposites. I was happy to be her friend.
Even now as we sit in the park on this sunny day in July, I wonder how I got so lucky. She has other friends of course, but I'm her best friend.
I realise that I've been staring and I look back to my phone. I can't help looking at her, she is exquisite, a goddess in the sunlight, reading her book and giggling at my jokes.
I look out of place next to her. A band t-shirt, jeans, black glasses and short, messy, badly dyed blue hair.
"Shall we get ice cream?" She asked. I agreed and we walked up the road to McDonald's.
She looked up at me as we stood talking in the queue. "Why are you so tall? I'm getting a sore neck."
"Oh shut up little one." I said, playfully pushing her.
"You shut up, Charlie." She said, pushing me back.
We got our ice creams and made our way back to the park, sitting on the grass next to a duck pond that never had any ducks in it.
Eating our ice creams in silence, I found myself staring at her again. She was wearing a pale blue dress and black pumps with a black hairband pushing her hair out of her face. She reminded me of Alice in Wonderland.
My thoughts were interrupted when my phone beeped, notifying me that my mother wanted me to be home within the hour. I sighed and stood up.
"Mum wants me home." I said sadly.
"Oh," said Lisa, standing up on her tiptoes to hug me. "I'll text you tonight."
I nodded as she pulled away. "See you soon, little one."
