“Hey Mimi”

I felt a heavy weight lay itself on my lap. I didn’t bother closing my book; I already knew who it was. And I already knew that his dog was already sat by my other side waiting for a ear scratch. I happily obliged and giggled as his tongue lapped at my hand.

“Hi Kiba so what do I owe being used as cushion for this time?”

He grinned up at me and poked my stomach making me jiggle in twist around. I slammed my book shut and put it back in my bag looking at my friend make him self more comfortable on me.

Kiba and I went way back, we found each other in a playground when we were toddlers and a game of playing ‘Doggy’ we had been inseparable, of course things had changed a little bit when Kiba joined the academy, he graduated and went on missions and I worked at my mothers book store. But he always returned happier to see me then when he left.

“I need a reason? You know you’re my favorite cushion, especially when I get back from an extremely dangerous and difficult mission.”

I scoffed at him and flicked his nose.

“A difficult and dangerous mission? Yesterday you were telling me about how you had to go do, and I quote ‘boring farm work’ how ‘dangerous’ was that then?”

He grabbed my hand and scowled at me, turning his to the side to try and hide the blush. As if he could hide it in his position. He held my hand to his chest and closed his eyes. I sighed and shifted into a more comfortable position. I laid my legs out fully, allowing Akamaru to jump on and settle down for a nap. I smiled to myself and grabbed my book again. Guess I was going to be a dog bed for a little while.

An hour went past, people walked by giving strange looks for a little while but it was getting close to sunset. And the village was getting ready to retire for the evening. I moved my book close to Kiba’s ears making sure to slam it with a satisfyingly loud thud to wake him.  He snorted and waved his hands about, scrambling to sit up right. He gave me a tired glare and nudged Akamaru awake with his hand.

“That wasn’t cool Mimi. Me and Akamaru were enjoying that nap.”

I stuck my tongue out at him and tucked my legs in forcing him to roll onto the ground. I stood up stretching my arms up, hearing my bones click and snap in appreciation.

“well unfortunately if you had your way we’d be here all night.”

He grinned and stood himself up, brushing off his pants. He wrapped one arm around my shoulder and started pulling me towards my street. He always insisted on walking me home when ever he could. I thought back to everyone who had ever asked if we were dating and everyone who pestered us about how we should be dating. Some times it did feel like we were dating. Kiba took me out and he spent most, if not all of his spare time with me. I shook my head lightly. I had to get my head out of the clouds. Me and Kiba would probably never be more then good friends. I was going to have watch him find a girlfriend and get married. And I doubt I was going to be anything more then a spectator.

“Come on Mimi, your dad will castrate me if I bring you home late again.”

I felt his hand slide in between mine and he laced our fingers together.

It was probably never going to happen but a girl can always dream
