My mom sounded a little angry on the phone when I picked it up. Kiera and Jacob were looking at me curiously. They knew that I don't usually get phone calls from anyone really. Everyone just prefers to text me including my parents, so the fact that someone was calling me, no matter who he or she is, was weird.

"Yeah mom, why did you call?" I said trying to choose my words correctly.

"Violet listen to me very carefully. You and I both know that you've never been really good at your tests or whatever they're called, but.."

Oh God. This isn't going great.

"But recently your teachers have been complaining about your results being really bad. They are even saying that you might not be able to pass this year with these results."

"Mom, I'm really sorry.." I started, but she cut me off.

"Listen to me. Like I said I know that you won't get the greatest results..." Well that's a great start mom, I thought to myself.

She continued:

"But you were definitely better than this, what happened?"

I knew exactly what happened. Everything was because of Austin, my ex-boyfriend. He broke up with me about a month ago and you know we used to have this amazing relationship; we were getting along very well. At least that's what I thought. Then he broke up with me for some other girl. I now know that he is just another ordinary guy who will constantly break people's hearts, but I still feel a little bad about that break-up. And that's why my grades haven't been so good lately.

I lied to my mother and said:

"I don't know mom, but I promise I will fix this."

She immediately said:

"Violet maybe you'll be able to fix it maybe you won't. And I really don't want to see you sad when you won't be able to pass this year."

"Mom the year has just started. I will get better. I promise."

"Violet getting better won't be enough. You will do what I say. End of discussion." she said, slightly angry.

"Fine mom. What is your plan, then." I said, certainly not expecting her to have a plan. But she managed to surprise me.

"I was thinking that maybe you could join some event at your school. You know because they help you earn extra points and stuff. They might really help."

"An event?" I asked.

"Yes, like a club or some social service. God I really don't know what they're called."

What my mom was asking me to do was something I totally didn't love. I just didn't love joining things. Besides I already had this dance competition thing after school.

Kiera and I were in this dance club and getting ready for the semifinals for the World's Dance Competition. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we were spending at least two hours practicing the choreography. And mom knew that, but just liked to pretend she didn't.

"Mom you know I don't have enough time because of the dance practices." I said complaining.

"I don't care Violet, you can create some free time for your classes, right?"

"Fine. I'll talk to you later. Bye." I said and hung up.

By that time Colin was sitting at our table and looking at me in suspense. I took a deep breath and explained the situation to them.

:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.

After school ended Kiera agreed to stay with me for an hour to search for some extra "event" as mom calls it. We came across a bunch of people gathered for the same purpose. There were some younger and older students waiting for a person to come. I didn't exactly know what we were waiting for because I had never been in this situation before. I had never joined a club or a social service. So Kiera and I decided to ask someone. I went up to an older looking boy and asked:

"Excuse me. How do we exactly choose our extra class? I was willing to volunteer for some kind of social service."

The boy looked at me raising one of his eyebrows and said:

"Are you going to that to get some extra grade or just volunteering?"

"I'm hoping to earn extra points if possible."

"Well then you don't get to choose whatever you want. The teachers choose for you." He pointed to the door and I saw Ms. Sandler coming out. Oh no, no no no!!

That woman freaking hates me!!

.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.

Okay, so, as far as I know there is only one good thing that I may like and it's the camping trip. If I get to be the advisor kinda thing I get to go on a camping trip and maybe have some fun.

As I was looking at the poster about the trip a girl stood next to me and asked:

"So are you thinking of going to that?" and pointed the poster.

"I am hoping." I corrected her. She nodded. Then I continued. "And what do you want?"

"I feel like I would have fun acting. So I'm hoping to get the theater."

"Ohh, I hate theater." I honestly stated.

She laughed and said, "and I hate adventure, therefore camping."

I was thinking to myself how can one hate having fun, but didn't say anything.

When the time came for Ms. Sandler to announce the results, I knew for a fact that she would give me the worst thing. I was just hoping that maybe she thought the worst thing for me would be the camping trip.

But I was wrong as usual.

For a second I thought she might have read my mind and gave me my least favorite: theater. Yep I got theater. Thanks a lot nasty old witch.

I literally wanted to scream so loud at that moment and I guess I was just about to, but then the girl I met before came to me and said:

"Wow. Just wow."

"What happened?" I asked.

She scowled and said:

"Haven't you been listening? You got the theater, I got the trip." She looked pissed.

"Then why aren't we exchanging? You can get the theater, I can get the camping trip." I said, very excited.

"Yeah that doesn't happen that way. There's a reason she chooses them. It is impossible to change them now." she sadly said and then went away.

I turned to Kiera and gave her a sad look. She opened her arms and hugged me. And that was the time I learned that life is never fair. It wasn't for me, it wasn't for that poor girl, and it wasn't for anyone ever.
