The doctor takes Jimin and Taehyung aside outside the room, away from Jungkook. His expression is grave as he speaks, holding a folder with some documents in his hands.
"I've reviewed Jungkook's medical records and run some tests," the doctor says, "and I think I know the reason why he's experiencing memory loss."
Taehyung and Jimin both look at the doctor with worried expressions, their hearts pounding. They both know that whatever the doctor is about to say is going to be tough to hear.
The doctor nods, his expression serious. "It looks like Jungkook has been given a high dose of medication over an extended period of time," he says, looking down at the folders in his hands. "It's likely that the prolonged use of these drugs has caused damage to his brain and resulted in memory loss. Additionally, I noticed some injection marks on his arms that indicate the use of tranquilizers and other sedatives."
Taehyung's mind reels at the doctor's words, his blood running cold. He knew that Jungkook had been through hell, but hearing the extent of it makes his heart ache all over again. Jimin looks just as horrified, his face pale as he processing the information.
The doctor shakes his head, confirming their worst fears. "I'm afraid the damage done by the prolonged medication and drugs is permanent," he says, his voice heavy with regret. "There is no way to reverse the memory loss. Jungkook will likely never regain his memories of the past few years."
"Oh God," Taehyung whispers, his voice choked with emotion. "This can't be happening. This can't be real. Jungkook... my Kookie... he can't remember anything about us? About our lives together?"
Jimin puts a comforting hand on Taehyung's shoulder, his own expression filled with sorrow. "We'll figure this out," he says softly, trying to reassure both Taehyung and himself. "There has to be a way to help Jungkook. We can't just give up on him."
Taehyung nods, leaning into Jimin's touch. He knows Jimin is right, but it's hard to stay positive when faced with such devastating news. The doctor clears his throat, drawing their attention back to him.
The doctor looks at them solemnly.
"You can take him home tomorrow," he says. "Just make sure to monitor his condition closely. He may experience some dizziness, headache, or disorientation due to the memory loss. But otherwise, he should be stable."
"Okay," Taehyung nods, his mind already starting to plan how he's going to take care of Jungkook once they get him home.
The doctor gives them a final sympathetic glance before leaving. Taehyung and Jimin both take a deep breath before stepping back into the room. They can see Jungkook sitting on the bed, looking out the window with a dazed expression on his face.
Taehyung steps closer to the bed, his heart aching as he looks at Jungkook. "Hey, Kookie," he says softly, trying to get his attention. "How are you feeling?"
Jungkook turns his head to look at Taehyung, his eyes still holding a hint of confusion. "I'm... I'm okay," he replies, his voice quiet and raspy. "Just a little tired."
Taehyung smiles weakly, reaching out to gently touch Jungkook's hand. "Yeah, you've been through a lot," he says, trying to keep his emotions in check. "But you're going to be okay now, okay? You're coming korea with us tomorrow."
Jungkook nods, looking a little lost. "Korea?" he repeats, his gaze flickering to Jimin who is standing next to Taehyung. "You both are taking me to Korea?"
Jimin steps forward, forcing a smile onto his face. "Yeah, Kookie," he says, his heart clenching at the sight of Jungkook's confusion. "We're taking you back to Korea, to your home."
Jungkook looks confused, his brow furrowing as he processes the information. "But... but my home is here with my dad," he says, looking between Taehyung and Jimin. "I don't understand, why am I going to Korea?"
Taehyung's heart breaks even more as he recognizes the confusion in Jungkook's eyes. He reaches out and gently touches Jungkook's cheek, trying to get him to focus on him.
Taehyung takes a deep breath, steeling himself for the difficult conversation that's about to come. "Kookie," he says steadily, "listen to me. Sang-woo isn't your dad, okay? He kidnapped you. He's not your real family."
Jungkook's eyes widen at Taehyung's words, a mix of shock and disbelief on his face. "What... what do you mean?" he stammers, his voice shaking. "He... he's not my dad? But he... he always told me he was."
Taehyung nods, gently taking Jungkook's hand in his own. "I know it's hard to process right now, but Sang-woo lied to you. He took you from your real family and kept you from me. Your real home is in Korea with me, Jimin, and the others. We've been looking for you for so long, Kookie."
Tears start streaming down Jungkook's face as understanding of the situation sinks in. He looks devastated, tears falling down his cheeks like a waterfall. "H-he... h-he hurt me," he whispers, his voice breaking. "Sang- Woo... he hurt me a lot..."
Taehyung looks at Jungkook, his heart aching at the sight of his tears. "I know, Kookie," he says gently. "Sang-woo is gone, permanently. He can't hurt you ever again, I promise you that."
Jungkook sniffles, trying to wipe the tears from his eyes with the back of his hand. "But... but I don't remember anything," he whispers, looking up at Taehyung with a pained expression. "I don't remember you, or any of you, or anything about my life. What if I never get those memories back?"
Taehyung's heart clenches at Jungkook's words. "We're gonna figure it out, okay?" he says firmly, squeezing Jungkook's hand. "We'll get through this together. And even if some memories don't come back, we'll create new ones. You're not alone, Kookie. You have all of us."
Taehyung notices the blush on Jungkook's cheeks, and a small smile tugs at the corners of his mouth. He rubs a thumb over the back of Jungkook's hand, his touch gentle and soothing.
Jungkook hesitates for a moment before asking, "Um... can I ask you something?"
Taehyung nods, giving Jungkook an encouraging look. "Of course, Kookie. You can ask me anything."
Jungkook takes a deep breath before asking, "What... what was I to you? I mean, like... what was our relationship?"
Taehyung's heart wrenches as Jungkook asks about their relationship. He opens his mouth to answer, but then hesitation flickers in his expression. The truth about their relationship is complicated, and he's not sure if it's the right time to tell Jungkook everything.
"We... we were stepbrothers, yeah," he says, forcing a smile onto his face. "But... but we were always much closer than that."
Jungkook's eyes widen at Taehyung's words, a mix of surprise and relief on his face. "We... we were close?" he asks, searching Taehyung's eyes. "Close how?"
Taehyung leans in, capturing Jungkook's lips in a gentle kiss. He feels Jimin's surprised gaze on them, but he ignores it, pouring all of his love and relief into the soft touch of their mouths.
Jungkook's eyes flutter close as Taehyung kisses him, a shiver running through his body at the unexpected tenderness. When Taehyung pulls back, he opens his eyes and looks at him.
Jungkook breaks the kiss, a frown on his face. "Wait," he says, his voice puzzled. "But... but you said we were step brothers, right? Brothers don't... brothers don't do that."
Taehyung nods, his heart still pounding from the kiss. He looks directly into Jungkook's eyes, trying to convey the depth of his feelings through his gaze.
He takes a deep breath and says, “Yes, we’re step brothers. But you don’t understand, Kookie. I... I've loved you since forever. For me, you’re more than just a brother. You’re everything to me.”
