"John?!" Lawrence stared at the man ahead of him. He was wearing a clock similar to Amanda with his hood up. In an outstretched hand was a phone, a completely average phone, much like his own.
"Hello, Dr. Gordon. I'm surprised that you recognise me." He grinned as he inspected the doctor.
"This here is your new work phone. I expect to never be contacted from anything but this. Do you understand?" Lawrence nodded, "I need a verbal answer." John Kramer continued on.
"Yes, John. I understand." Lawrence muttered with disgust as he frowned his eyes, snatching the phone from John's hand.
"I'd be more grateful when talking to John, Lawrence. He saved the lives of your family, your twink little boyfriend's too -" Amanda was interrupted.
"Amanda, please. Give Dr. Gordon a moment. He'll warm up." He held his hand out towards her. Amanda quickly left Lawrence's side before standing beside John.
"What do you want from me, John?" Lawrence raised an eyebrow as he watched John walk off. Amanda sighed as her hands reached the doctors shoulders, shoving him along. The two followed John up the stairs to the platform. On the wall behind the workbench was hung a large corkboard, a professional photo of a man on there, such as the photo for an ID.
"Do you know who this man is, Doctor?" John asked, his voice demeaning as Lawrence realised where he actually was. He muttered a "No."
"This is David Faulkner. He's an illegal dog breeder, his 'products' quickly dying out in the first month of customer's receiving them. Last week, he tried to drag a razor against his thighs but couldn't gather the courage to do so." David's expression was one of seriousness. Despite just being a photo, he looked so real to Lawrence. His piercing green eyes stood out in the black and white photo, his curls a caramel brown.
"The first part of your training is rather simple, Dr. Gordon. You have three days to design him a... well, I suppose you'd call it a trap."
"I'd call it life-changing appreciation." Amanda called out from behind the two as she leaned against the wall. The two men turned round to look at her, "but I'm not the mastermind."
Amanda turned around as she strutted off back down the stairs.
"On that phone, I want you to send me your final sketch. I can construct the trap. Then, it's up to you and Mandy."
"I see." Lawrence replied as he turned back towards the photo. The silence held heavy as he just stared, almost like he couldn't look away.
That man was his first victim."That desk, across from Amanda -" John coughed into his hand as he clutched his chest with his other. "That's yours. And is only to be used by you, in the first drawer there are two folders being stored there. One is for your victims, and the other is for your designs."
John shuffled back down the stairs as Lawrence followed, heavy on his trail. He didn't want to miss a thing, out of fear, for what John could do.
He stopped in front of Lawrence's new desk."You'll warm up to us soon, Larry." Amanda called from her desk, opposite from Doctor Gordons. Her legs were crossed and hanging off the desk as she leaned back in her chair, "we are a family here."
Lawrence's heart felt like jumping off of a skyscraper. He just lost his family. His divorce will make him lose it all. In the end, he'll only have Adam.
Adam... so young, so free. He couldn't hold the younger boy back. The guilt he would feel would be tremendous. Adam was still so lucky. It won't be years until he settles with a wife and kids. A wife...
