Mission: Abort (Before I Die)

Okay, deep breaths. You can do this, Izuku, I told myself, staring at the glowing screen of my ancient, slightly glitchy laptop. Sure, this thing had seen better days, but it hadn't let me down yet. And today, it was about to face its biggest challenge: hacking into UA's security systems.

What's the worst that could happen? I mean, aside from immediate discovery, a city-wide manhunt, and maybe Eraserhead showing up to strangle me with his capture weapon. Totally fine. No pressure at all.

I adjusted my hoodie like it was some kind of armor and cracked my knuckles, trying to psych myself up.

You're not hacking into the Pentagon, Izuku. It's just UA. Full of pros. With cutting-edge tech. And probably geniuses monitoring their systems around the clock.

Oh no. I was already spiraling.

"Focus," I muttered—well, thought, because talking to myself would just make things even weirder. The villains didn't need more reasons to think I was a lunatic.

I pulled up the code I'd been tinkering with for hours, a patchwork mess of stolen scripts, borrowed algorithms, and a little too much wishful thinking. The plan was simple: get into UA's system, poke around their security feed, and figure out how often they patrolled the campus. Nothing major. No stealing files, no triggering alarms, just a tiny peek.

Easy-peasy, right?

I hit "enter," watching the lines of code run across the screen like a digital prayer. Everything seemed to be going fine. My little script slipped through the first firewall, bypassed a minor security measure, and then—

BEEP.

BEEP.

BEEP.

Oh. No.

The screen flashed red, the words SECURITY BREACH DETECTED practically screaming at me.

No.

Nope.

 No thank you.

I did NOT sign up for this.

My hands flew to the keyboard, frantically trying to shut down the connection, but then my laptop started making this horrible wheezing noise, like it was about to cough up a lung. Meanwhile, on my small screen left edge—because of course I had security feeds open—I saw something that made my blood run cold.

UA. Real-time security cameras. And lights. Lots of lights.

The campus lit up like a Christmas tree, and heroes started moving.

Fast.

There was Eraserhead, looking as done with life as ever, barking orders to a bunch of other pros. Midnight was there too, scanning the area like a hawk.

Oh my god.

I broke UA.

My brain went into overdrive.

Okay, think, Izuku, think!

You didn't actually do anything.

They don't know where you are.

You're safe.

You're fine.

Everything's—

The camera feed zoomed in. On my FREAKING building.

NOT FINE.

NOT SAFE.

NOT OKAY.

I clapped my hands over my mouth to keep from screaming because, you know, stealth. My heart was going a hundred miles an hour, and I was pretty sure I was about to die from sheer panic.

Heroes were swarming outside, but... they weren't coming in. They weren't even looking up. They were just... patrolling.

Oh.

OH.

They don't know it's me.

They just think it's a random signal.

Stay quiet, oh dear me.

Stay invisible.

I froze, barely even breathing. The villains in the building were as loud and clueless as ever, arguing about coffee or whatever nonsense they obsessed over, but none of them seemed to notice the commotion outside.

I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the lights outside dimmed, and the heroes started to retreat.

Thank you, universe.

I will never complain about my life again.

As soon as the coast was clear, I slammed my laptop shut like it was possessed. The poor thing was overheating so badly it might as well have been auditioning for the role of a space heater.

Note to self: Do not attempt to hack UA again unless you want a heart attack and a fried PC.

Leaning back in my chair, I stared at the ceiling, trying to calm down. My hands were still shaking, my face was pale, and I was pretty sure I'd aged about ten years in the last ten minutes.

Well, that was fun

Let's never do it again.
