It was everywhere.

In the cheap coffee,
Bought in the cafe
At the corner
The day after home
Was no longer home.
When his mom said
"Obey or leave."
So he left
And didn't look back

On the beat up couch,
In her friends garage
Where she spent the night
Again.
But it was seeping out,
And the longer she stayed,
The less there was.
She didn't know what to do.

In the boy's hands,
When he held hers
As he apologized
For what he knew was wrong
But couldn't stop
Even when the threats became real
And the house became empty,
He still couldn't stop.

It was in wool blanket,
That always lies
At the foot of the bed
Wanting to be used.
Longing for the day
When it would wrap up
Lovers,
Friends,
Babies just born.
It waited.

Warmth was everywhere
Even when it wasn't.
