THIRD POV
SOMEWHERE
Althea laid on the ground groaning in pain as she twitched and shook. She couldn't help but finally wake up after the battle. Only this time, the sight of her mates and family in law wasn't the sight that greeted her.
Instead of the woods she'd just fought for her life in just a minute ago, she appeared to have landed in a parking lot of some kind. She couldn't really make out where she was. She just knew she was much closer to civilization than she'd previously been the past few months.
She winced as she tried to lift herself only to tumble onto the floor once again. She cried as another ripple of pain went through her along with a lot of pressure near her pelvic area.
She almost accepted that she wasn't going to make it anywhere safe before she heard the sound of what would be her angels.
An elderly couple strolled down the parking lot, their laughter echoing softly in the evening air. The woman, with silver hair pulled back into a bun noticed her first. "Dear, are you alright?", she called out, her voice laced with concern.
Althea tried to respond but she was too weak to. She tried to lift her head but a sudden wave of nausea hit her making her drop it back onto the ground.
"Ronald!", the woman shouted as she rushed to Althea's side as her husband quickly joined her. "We need to get her to a hospital". He knelt beside her and gently shook her shoulders, "Can you hear me, dear?"
Althea's eyelids fluttered, yet she remained unresponsive, their warm presence was comforting. She wasn't so alone. With urgency, Ronald lifted her head and the woman fumbled with her phone as she dialed for help while her husband cradled her limp body.
Within moments they managed to carry her into the backseat of their old beat up car, their concern even higher. "Just hold on sweetheart", the woman murmured, brushing a stray hair away from Althea's face. "We're going to get you to the hospital. You're going to be alright".
They drove in silence as the tension thickened with Althea's grunts and cries. The woman was so worried she kept turning to check on her. She looks over at her and her eyes widen when she notices more blood dripping onto the seat. Her dirtied up white dress soaked with it.
"Ronald you need to be faster she's bleeding even more", she says as she grabs onto his arm in fear. His eyes widen before he starts driving even faster. The roads were long since they were in the countryside, they wouldn't get there for another 20 minutes.
"We're almost there. Scream all you need okay, let it out. I know how painful it is". Althea's half lidded eyes could only slightly see the woman.
She was slipping in and out of consciousness the longer she laid there and yet, it was the most comfortable she'd felt all of these months. She smiled slightly as she stared at the woman. The sun was shining so bright it was beautiful. With the many green trees they'd passed. Cattle and horses littered on either side of the road. They were the only ones on the road at the time.
The sky was this gorgeous blue. And somehow the light was shining behind that woman's head so bright it made her glow like an angel. She looked so warm and so comforting as she tried to soothe Althea. But it was so hard to see her, because her eyes started feeling heavy. She smiled as she suddenly remembered her mother. How beautiful she was.
