The growl that ripped from Kim’s throat when Anon entered the room, flanked by an Alpha guard, was visceral and feral. The sound reverberated through the space, making both the Beta and the guard freeze in their tracks.
Anon raised his hands cautiously. “Khun Kim,” he began, his tone measured, “I’m just here to check on Porchay. Is everything alright?”
Kim didn’t answer. His eyes, tinged with red, locked onto the guard like a predator sizing up a threat. His teeth bared, and his body stiffened as if preparing to lunge.
Anon followed Kim’s line of sight and immediately understood. “For the love of God,” he muttered, turning to the guard. “Get out.”
The guard bowed quickly, stepping out of the room and closing the door softly behind him.
“Better?” Anon asked cautiously, glancing at Kim.
Kim blinked a few times, his eyes losing their dangerous edge, though the tension in his shoulders remained. “Apologies,” he muttered, his voice gruff. “I didn’t mean to…” He trailed off, looking down at Porchay, whose pale face showed no sign of stirring.
“I get it,” Anon said, his voice softening. “Another Alpha in the room with your mate? It’s instinct. No need to explain.” He paused, taking a careful step closer. “How is he today? Any change?”
Kim’s jaw tightened, and his gaze never left Porchay’s face. “No change,” he said hoarsely. “But… he’s not worse. I suppose that’s something.”
Anon nodded, sitting cautiously at the far end of the couch. “You look like hell,” he said bluntly. “When’s the last time you ate something? Slept?”
Kim ignored the comment, his hand absentmindedly brushing through Porchay’s hair. “He needs me,” he murmured. “If I leave, even for a second—”
Anon cut him off gently. “Kim, listen to me. You’re doing everything you can, but if you collapse, who’s going to take care of him? Let me help. Just for fifteen minutes. Go eat, stretch, change your clothes. I’ll stay with him.”
Kim’s head snapped up, his eyes narrowing. “No,” he said sharply. “I can’t—”
“Kim,” Anon interrupted, his voice firm but kind. “I understand everything. You. Him. I would never let anything happen to him. Look at yourself. You’re barely holding on.”
For a moment, Kim looked like he might argue, but then his shoulders slumped in defeat. He gently shifted Porchay off his lap, laying him carefully on the bed. When Porchay whimpered and clutched weakly at Kim’s shirt, his heart twisted painfully.
“Easy, little Omega,” Kim murmured, pressing a kiss to Porchay’s temple. “I’ll be right back, alright? Just a few minutes. You’re safe.” His voice cracked on the last word.
Anon slid into Kim’s spot as soon as he moved, gathering Porchay into his arms when the Omega started to tremble. “See?” Anon said softly. “He’s fine. I’ve got him. Go.”
Kim hesitated at the door, his hand gripping the frame so tightly his knuckles turned white. “Fifteen minutes,” he said gruffly. “Don’t move him. Don’t try to wake him. Just… just keep him warm.”
Anon offered a small, reassuring smile. “You’ve got my word.”

Outside the room, Kim inhaled deeply, the fresh air doing little to ease the tightness in his chest. He changed quickly, grabbed a piece of toast and some juice, and forced himself to eat despite the nausea roiling in his stomach. Last night the dinner Khun bought... It was left untouched.Every second away from Porchay felt like an eternity.
He returned after just thirteen minutes, stepping back into the room like a man on a mission.
