Next day
The Theerapanyakul meeting room was unusually quiet, save for the soft hum of the air conditioner and the occasional shuffle of papers. Kim sat at the far end of the table, his head in his hands, muttering under his breath.
Kinn sat beside him, his face a mixture of concern and irritation, while Vegas leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, occasionally glancing at Pete, who stood silently in the corner with an uneasy expression.
Kim's voice broke the silence again, low and filled with self-loathing. "I’m such a bad Alpha... I failed him, Kinn. I hurt him. I should’ve protected him, not pushed him away."
Kinn sighed, placing a reassuring hand on Kim’s shoulder. "Kim, blaming yourself over and over won’t fix anything. You made a mistake—yes—but dwelling on it won’t help Porchay."
Khun’s voice echoed in his head, sharp and cutting, yelling at him until his ears rang: “You’re a disgrace to your bloodline! Do you even know what it means to be an Alpha? You don’t deserve him!” Kim flinched at the memory, as though Khun’s rage had physically struck him. He’d wanted to argue, to defend himself, but every accusation Khun hurled at him had already played on repeat in his own mind.
Kim lifted his head slightly, his eyes bloodshot and tired. "What can I do, Kinn? He trusted me, and I... I let him down. I ruined him." His voice cracked, and he dropped his gaze to the table. "What if he doesn’t forgive me?"
“What kind of Alpha leaves their mate alone like that?” he whispered. “What kind of Alpha lets his mate suffer?”
Vegas said softly, leaning forward with his elbows on the table. “Stop using ‘Alpha’ like it’s some sacred title that excuses you from being human”
He knew what it felt like to be a broken Alpha leaving his mate for something stupid.
"Kim, forgiveness isn’t about what you want. It’s about what he needs. If you’re serious about making amends, you have to be ready to face the possibility that Porchay might not forgive you."
Kim flinched at Vegas’s words, but he nodded slowly, understanding the harsh truth.
"Still," Vegas added, his tone softening slightly, "that doesn’t mean you stop trying. Show him you mean it, Kim. Actions, not words."
Kim’s jaw tightened, his mind racing with thoughts of how he could fix things. "But how? What can I do that would actually matter to him now?"
Kinn squeezed his shoulder. "Start with the basics, Kim. Communicate. Show him that you’re not running away anymore. And for God’s sake, stop saying you’re a bad Alpha. It’s not helping anyone."
"I am a bad Alpha," Kim muttered under his breath, his voice wavering.
Vegas groaned and stood up, walking over to Kim. He gave him a firm pat on the back, the force making Kim straighten in his chair. "Snap out of it, Kim. You’re not the only Alpha who’s messed up. Trust me, I’ve done worse. You’re still breathing, aren’t you? Porchay’s still here, isn’t he? Then quit the pity party and do something about it."
Pete, who had been standing silently with guilt written all over his face, finally spoke. "Khun Kim…" His voice was hesitant, but he forced himself to continue. "I think Porchay just needs to see that you’re not giving up on him. Even if he doesn’t forgive you right away, at least he’ll know you’re trying."
Kim turned to look at Pete, his expression softening slightly. "You really think that’s enough?"
Pete nodded. "It’s a start."
The room fell silent again as Kim absorbed their words. His mind drifted back to the image of Porchay, unconscious and fragile, with Porsche and Tankhun hovering over him. The thought made his heart ache even more.
