Author's POV

"Had your lunch?.

I just finished mine and we apprehended the culprit; I should be home by evening. I apologize for missing your call this morning and hope it hasn't been added to your "Reasons to be Angry at Bairavan" list. Looking forward to seeing you this evening. Bye, take care. "

Umaiyazh read the message over and over, with a silly smile on her face. He was right She might have added it to her list of grievances, but his cute messages always quelled her anger, making her forget why she was upset with him in the first place. After all, he was too kind to her, despite the events that unfolded on what was meant to be the happiest day of their lives, turning it into the worst—a day he never wishes to revisit.

Umaiyazh had initially chosen not to dwell on the past. However, over the past two weeks, she found herself repeatedly reflecting on the wedding day, which only intensified her feelings of guilt and shame for her inadvertent neglect, especially as he faced belittlement from her mother amidst the overwhelming joy.

Yes, it's been two weeks, and today he returns. Umaiyazh is prepared to welcome her husband and apologize for her actions. She may take time to acknowledge her faults, but she does apologize once she's ready to accept her mistakes and seeks forgiveness rather than defending her actions to the bitter end, which would only worsen matters. True, she makes serious mistakes, but after deeper reflection and processing, she understands others' perspectives as well; it just takes her longer. She struggles to control her overwhelming emotions and impulsive actions in the heat of the moment, but she does make amends later, which is commendable.

This is the main aspect Bairavan learned about his wife in this two-week gap. She phoned him one evening, a week after his departure. As he answered, all he could hear was her continuous stream of apologies and expressions of remorse, pleading for his forgiveness. In fact, she didn't allow him to speak; she conveyed all she had to say in one breath, ended the call abruptly, and then messaged him the following

"Don't call me back right now...

I am crying and I need some time to compose myself. If you call, I won't be able to control my tears. It's unfortunate that you or my family aren't here to hug and console me. So please, don't call. Take care of your health, finish the case, and return soon. your wife is missing you, ACP sir...

Once again, I'm sorry, and thank you for tolerating me, Bairavan"

Bairavan was upset, yes, but he couldn't stay angry with her for long, especially after the lengthy apology call and her message. He decided to let go of the day's events, not wishing to dwell on them and cause further issues in their lives. She admitted her mistake and apologized, and he didn't want to press the matter further. Umaiyazh's mother's actions were somewhat justified, considering those were the exact thoughts that had made him restless. The way her family welcomed him and the reluctance from Umaiyazh's mother were expected, so they didn't hurt or affect him much. It was Umaiyazh's indifference that truly upset him.

Actually he is thankful that Geetha's talks made him realize something important that he didn't thought before; he hadn't considered buying a house since the police quarters seemed sufficient. When he began his job and started earning, his first obligation was to clear debts and loans. Just as he was getting a breather, his mother's health deteriorated, and his earnings were directed towards her medical expenses. After her passing, he ceased to plan for his life and future, lacking a financial management strategy. Fortunately, he was frugal, so his savings remained untouched in his bank account. Now, he needed to use them wisely, considering investments, future plans, and savings. This time, with his wife by his side, he intended to plan their future together, including budget planning. All these thoughts were on his mind, and he planned to discuss them with Umaiyazh upon his return. He didn't want to keep any secrets from her and was eager to understand her expectations and preferences—whether to buy a flat, build a home, or purchase land and construct a house according to their liking. Taking out a home loan was also part of his plan. Upon his return, he would sort all this out in discussion with her. Before considering a house, he knew he had to purchase new furniture, kitchen, and home appliances.

After submitting the request in court and placing him in police custody, he is returning to the police quarters to his wife.

He paused at the gate, ready to dismount and open it, but as he moved to do so, the gate swung open on its own, revealing his wife with a beaming smile that touched his heart. The realization that someone was eagerly waiting for him at home, welcoming him with such affection, was an unfamiliar yet overwhelming feeling he hadn't known since his college days. Having worked since childhood, he was used to returning to a house where only his mother awaited him. College life meant staying in a hostel, juggling studies with part-time jobs. After graduation, he took up delivery work, simultaneously preparing for the UPSC exams. It took two attempts, but he succeeded, followed by academy training and his posting. Just when life seemed to be settling into a routine, his mother's cancer diagnosis turned his world upside down, leaving him returning to an empty, hollow house. But this time was different; he wasn't coming back to an empty space. There was someone to greet him, someone anticipating his return, giving him a profound reason to come back to what he could now truly call home. This newfound joy was overwhelming for Bairavan.

He rode his bike through the gate, parking it to the side, and that's when he noticed the changes. The once-neglected garden, overrun with wild plants and tended to only by the park staff, now appeared orderly and inviting. It was adorned with new plants, some decorative, others likely vegetables. His time working at an ornamental plant store during college had familiarised him with various plant species, their rarity, and their prices, and he could tell that the additions here were costly ones.

As he stepped off the bike, he was instantly enveloped in his wife's embrace, who had thrown herself into his arms for an impromptu hug. His thoughts, previously occupied with the new changes around him, now returned to his wife. He hugged her back, pulling her in closer and planting multiple kiss on her head and temple.....

"I missed you"

Umaiyazh mumbled against his chest and kissed his chest and lifted her head and kissed his neck while Bairavan smiled and kissed her shoulder
