(A/N I wrote this for my creative writing class and thought I'd share it.)

(Sonnet)

A man sits, gentleness radiating.

An aviator and messenger of many names,

With a helmet bearing goggles and wings.

Hermes, Hermod, and Mercury play games.

The deity is noticed by a small humming guest.

Flitting and flying, he holds up a finger.

A finger where a hummingbird comes to rest.

He can't help but hope his flying friend will linger.

While some would find the man fearsome,

Whether from his height and figure,

Even his onyx skin to the shallow some;

The hummingbird sees a kindness transfigures.

The bird takes off with a final tweet like a bell.

He pulls down his goggles, ready to fly as well.
