NOVA"Can I ask what happened?"
"Yes," was all he said, watching me while I attentively closed a bandage around his hand.
Yes?
That's it?
I let out a small, subtle scoff and secured the gauze in place. It wrapped around his palm and covered his knuckles, protecting the open cuts I covered with ointment. Thank you, Jade.
While I focused on dressing his wounds, his eyes were on me as if he couldn't look away. I didn't want him to. I could barely keep still and concentrate because all I really wanted to do was look at him too.
His tattooed fingers were in my own hand, and his ring was cold against my skin. How could I concentrate?
"Self-defence," he muttered after a beat of silence, his voice soft in my bathroom.
I glanced down at him at him, searching his eyes and finding nothing but the truth. At least, that's the way it looked.
I nodded, turning to wash my hands at the basin. I opened the tap and covered my palm with liquid soap, ignoring the sound of Ramiro getting on his feet. I washed my hands, covering my skin in the soft scented suds and intentionally paying no attention to the feeling of him coming up behind me.
I rinsed my hands, and his own slipped underneath my t-shirt and found my waist. When did my robe become undone?
His hand was warm, but the bandage was rough and I found myself liking the way it felt. Almost too much. I let out a small sigh, only just stopping myself from leaning into him.
His chest was barely against my back, and I wanted him closer without having to ask for it.
I heard him breathe in, and I locked eyes with him through the mirror to find that his were already fixated on me.
He bent down, and I watched his face disappear when he offered me a kiss on the side of my neck. A small, barely there kiss that had my skin warming up at his touch. His dark hair was full—longer than the first time I saw him. I craved to run my hand through it one more time.
"You're so beautiful," he whispered, his breath fanning against my exposed flesh.
Closer.
"Miro," I whispered, holding the edge of the basin as if it were my crutch. I, shamelessly, leaned my head back and felt his chest.
I didn't want to pretend I wanted him gone. I needed to show that he could stay if he wanted to.
I eyed him through the mirror, feeling and seeing his lips graze over my neck. He left fire in his path and chills followed suit, a sensation I still couldn't get accustomed to. It always felt new.
"Did you have a good day, hermosa?" he asked softly, his tone tender.
"No," I answered truthfully, leaning my head to the side and granting him the access he wished for. He smiled slightly and I observed him through the mirror, feeling every part of me enjoy the view.
"Who do I need to kill?" he mumbled, his voice muffled by my skin and my lips parted when he kissed me harder. I chuckled slightly, but he didn't.
"My ex-boss," I joked, nearly letting out a moan when he gave me the gentlest bite on my shoulder. I couldn't take my eyes off him, and the intention on his face.
Why did he almost seem...at peace?
"Yeah?" he breathed. "Still hasn't paid you?"
"No," I whispered. "I don't want to go back there."
