The next day, during lunch, I saw Calum walking towards me. I just continued to walk, unsure whether to make the first move of saying hi- he was with his group of shenanigan friends, and some of the girls, such as Perry and Kym.

Kym was chatting to him, her bright blue hair in a bun. Somehow, she managed to look great, even though she wore clothes that resembled pajamas.

"Ava!" He called from where he stood. My cheeks heated up as it seemed everyone from his group was looking at me. I smiled awkwardly.

"Hi" I greeted quietly.

He made his way towards me, his arms open as if he were coming in for a hug. I awkwardly tried to move my arms, but I wasn't really sure what to do, and instead just left them down at my sides as his arms engulfed me in a hug.

"Oh um hi I'm awkward yeah" I mumbled quickly as I dashed away. My cheeks felt like they were on fire and my heart was racing.

Holy shit. So that just happened.

I tried to mentally calm myself down by taking deep breaths, but I was still pretty much in shock that he hugged me in front of his friends, like that had to violate some social rule.

What. The. Hell. Just. Happened.

Later that day, in the afternoon, my phone once again lit up with a notification from Calum.

avas.wonderland: awkward* I looked awkward today
calumhood: yeah I heard you say something about being awkward
avas.wonderland: Yeah, I'm an awkward duckling
calumhood: It made it cute
avas.wonderland: Isn't there some sort of social law about you talking to me
calumhood:what the hell are you talking about
calumhood: social law?
avas.wonderland: yeah like the coOL kids can't talk to the weird nerds
calumhood: we're not the cool kids
calumhood: we're really just a bunch of stoners honestly
avas.wonderland: Drugs are bad kiddo, but I won't judge you
calumhood: see how cute that sentence was?
avas.wonderland: Nope. Not really. Potatotos is a cute word. awkwo is too. Plus this ^w^ <- that's also cute.
calumhood: not as cute as you :)
avas.wonderland:Oh god
avas.wonderland: Okay
avas.wonderland: Wait hold up
avas.wonderland: How do I know you don't just say this and do this to a lot of girls
calumhood: well you don't. not yet anyways, all i can say for now is that i dont until i prove it to you. and i wanna prove it to you.

That one message made me smile the most. He said he would prove it to me. I felt like a shining star. Like I actually meant something to someone.

Someone thought that I was cute.

And it wasn't just anyone either. It was someone who was sweet, and smooth, and pretty attractive.

I smiled the rest of the night as I drifted off to sleep.
