The walls of Aubrey and Adrianne's home felt like they were closing in. The air was thick with the weight of Sophie's latest actions, and the fight to protect Adonis was growing more complicated with every passing day.
____________Ontario, Canada Courthouse
9:30 AM, Two Weeks LaterAdrianne sat in the gallery, her hands tightly gripping the edge of the bench as she watched Aubrey's lawyer address the judge.
"Your Honor, the defendant has repeatedly violated the restraining order. She has not only attempted to gain unauthorized access to the child at his school but has also engaged in public harassment through social media and direct contact with my client's family. It is clear that Ms. Sophie Baker poses a significant threat to the well-being of the child, Adonis Graham, and my client is requesting an immediate emergency custody hearing to ensure the child's safety."
Sophie sat at the defendant's table, her face composed but her eyes burning with rage. She wore a crisp white blouse and black slacks, a clear attempt to appear calm and collected, but the cracks in her façade were obvious to those who knew her.
Her lawyer stood, adjusting his tie nervously. "Your Honor, my client is a mother who is simply desperate to see her son. While she acknowledges that mistakes have been made, these actions stem from her love for her child, not malice or harm. We would argue that removing Adonis entirely from her life would only exacerbate the emotional distress she's experiencing."
Adrianne glanced at Aubrey, who sat beside his lawyer, his jaw tight as he stared straight ahead. His silence spoke volumes—he was done entertaining Sophie's manipulations.
The judge, a middle-aged woman with piercing eyes, looked over the evidence on her desk. "Ms. Baker, the restraining order violation alone is a serious matter, but your repeated actions have shown a disregard for the boundaries set by this court. I am granting the emergency custody order in favor of Mr. Graham, effective immediately. Until further notice, you are to have no contact with Adonis outside of supervised visitation."
Sophie shot up from her seat. "Supervised visitation? Are you kidding me? He's my son!"
Her lawyer placed a hand on her arm, trying to calm her, but she yanked it away.
"Your Honor," Sophie continued, her voice cracking, "Aubrey and that woman are poisoning my son against me! They're trying to erase me from his life! I'm his mother. Doesn't that mean anything?"
The judge's gaze was unflinching. "Ms. Baker, I strongly advise you to control your outbursts. My decision stands. If you wish to regain custody rights, I suggest you cooperate fully with the court's recommendations, which will include a psychological evaluation and parenting classes."
Sophie's face crumpled, tears spilling down her cheeks as she sank back into her chair. Adrianne exhaled quietly, her heart pounding. It was a small victory, but she knew this wasn't the end.
__________Later That Evening
The drive home was quiet. Aubrey kept his eyes on the road, his knuckles tight around the steering wheel. Adrianne sat in the passenger seat, glancing back at Adonis, who was quietly drawing in his notebook.
"You okay?" she asked softly.
Aubrey sighed, nodding slowly. "It's just... hard. I didn't want it to come to this. I wanted her to be better, for his sake."
"She made her choices," Adrianne said gently. "And now, we have to focus on keeping Adonis safe."
Aubrey glanced at her, his eyes filled with gratitude and exhaustion. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Adrianne. Really."
She reached over, squeezing his hand. "We're in this together."
When they pulled into the driveway, Adonis perked up. "Are we home?"
"Yeah, buddy," Aubrey said, parking the car. "Let's go inside."
___________
Sophie's Apartment
The wine glass shattered against the wall, crimson liquid dripping like blood onto the floor. Sophie stood in the middle of the chaos, her breathing ragged as she stared at the mess she'd created.
Her phone buzzed on the counter, and she snatched it up, her hands trembling.
The text was from an unknown number.
"You're losing control. Do you want help?"
Her brow furrowed as she stared at the screen. She had no idea who had sent it, but the words struck a chord. She was losing control. Her son was slipping further and further away, and no amount of fighting seemed to bring him back.
The bad angel appeared again, lounging on the counter with a smirk.
"You don't need help," it said, its voice sweet and venomous. "You need revenge. They think they've won, but you're just getting started. You know where they're vulnerable, Sophie. Use it."
Sophie shook her head, clutching the counter for support. "No... I just want my son back."
The angel rolled its eyes. "Then stop crying and start acting. Do you think Aubrey cares about you? About how you feel? He's already replaced you, Sophie. And Adrianne—she's the one you need to take down. Without her, Aubrey has no shield."
Sophie's lips trembled as anger flared in her chest. The angel was right. Adrianne was the problem. She was the reason Aubrey had turned his back on her, the reason Adonis was being kept away.
Her hands steadied as her thoughts crystallized. She would do whatever it took to get her son back—even if it meant tearing Adrianne out of their lives for good.
__________Toronto
1:30 AMAdrianne stirred awake, a strange feeling washing over her. She glanced at the clock on the nightstand and frowned. The house was silent, but something felt off.
Sliding out of bed, she grabbed her robe and tiptoed down the hall, checking on Adonis and Promise. Both were sound asleep.
She turned toward the living room, her steps quiet but purposeful. As she reached the front door, she froze. The faint sound of footsteps outside made her blood run cold.
Adrianne moved quickly, grabbing her phone and dialing Aubrey, who was still upstairs.
"Adrianne?" he answered groggily.
"Someone's outside," she whispered, her voice shaking.
There was a pause, then the sound of him getting out of bed. "Stay where you are. I'll check it out."
As Aubrey made his way downstairs, Adrianne's heart pounded in her chest. She clutched her phone tightly, her eyes glued to the door.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, followed by a sharp knock.
Aubrey reached the bottom of the stairs, signaling for Adrianne to stay back. He glanced at the security monitor and stiffened.
It was Sophie.
"Aubrey, open the door!" she called, her voice frantic. "Please, I just want to talk!"
Adrianne's stomach dropped. This wasn't over—not by a long shot.
__________Yeahhhh there's no coming back for Sophie from this😬😬😬😬
