"Do you feel up to watching a movie, darling?" Yeji asked as she sat down on the couch beside you.
She ran the towel through her damp hair since she just got out of the shower a few minutes ago, which she needed after a busy day.
But now all she needs is you.
"Okay. What do you want to watch?"
Yeji was about to respond when she noticed that you were bouncing your knee and fidgeting.
That was odd to her because ever since you started your ADHD medication and felt it started to make a big difference, she hasn't seen you fidget as much.
You seem much more relaxed and focused and don't seem to feel like you can't sit still.
But today, she was noticing the complete opposite - that you couldn't sit still.
She reached over and put her hand on your knee to stop it from bouncing.
You looked at her and just a second later, your other began to move.
"Hey," She softly spoke as she cupped your cheek in her hands. "Are you feeling alright today?"
"Yeah, why do you ask?"
"You seem much more restless. You're fidgeting and can't seem to stay still."
Her eyes were filled with worry as she looked into yours.
"Did you take your ADHD medicine?"
Your eyes went wide and Yeji knew exactly why you seemed so restless.
It made perfect sense now.
"When was the last time you took it? Yesterday?"
"Well... no. I forgot to take it. I think I took it two days ago, maybe three."
"Baby," She quickly said before watching your knees bounce more and she knew she wasn't helping any by preparing to remind you why it was so important for you to keep up with your medicine.
"I know, I know, Yeji!"
"Okay, it's okay." She whispered and put her hand on your shoulder. "I'm not mad and I'm not going to lecture you. I just thought you were keeping up with them."
"I forgot."
"That's alright. We'll call your doctor tomorrow and ask what she thinks we should do since it's been more than a day without them. Are you feeling okay? You don't feel sick or anything? Your heart isn't racing?"
"No, I just feel like I can't sit still."
She wasn't at all surprised by that because that was a big sign of you missing out on your medicine.
"I know, baby. It'll be okay." She assured before reaching into the drawer by the sofa for one thing that would hopefully help you now like it usually does. "Here, use this."
Your stress ball.
It's one thing you use often when your ADHD symptoms get bad and is one thing that your doctor recommended until the medication first started to kick in, which can take a while sometimes.
"Thank you."
"Do you feel like you want to get up and move around? We could for a walk."
"In a bit." You said as you squeezed your stress ball.
"Okay, if you want to, that's fine. If you change your mind, that's alright too. Don't forget you have one of your spinners in here too if you need it."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." She said as she rubbed your knee comfortingly. "Don't worry, it'll be alright. We'll make it through today and then hopefully tomorrow you can take your medicine and it'll kick in quickly again."
She could only hope.
Not because you annoy her when you're like this; no, that couldn't be more untrue.
She's always been incredibly understanding of your ADHD and all the things that come along with it.
She's patient, supportive, and will always help you when you feel overwhelmed or frustrated.
But she does know how uncomfortable you feel sometimes when your ADHD gets like this and she just wants you to feel better.
And there was one thing that was for sure - she'd be keeping up with your medicine with you more often to make sure this doesn't happen again if you can help it because you've been making excellent progress and deserve better than having to feel this way all the time.
