So he will still have fatherly thoughts right now, but occasionally those bad thoughts will pop up before he can stop himself.
Poseidon will have internal battles. He's going to be like WTF? Why am I thinking that suddenly?!
I'm trying to make his descent into obsession and "falling in love" with Percy (He calls it falling in love) naturally, and I thought the Ares battle was a good start because he is a god who was beaten by a "mere" demigod.
Poseidon will become less and less likable as the reaction goes on. The most people like him is when he completely thinks like an actual father.
And Percy was kidnapped after Book 5.
If you guys think the Ares battle was not a good start for his mental change, I can go back and take those parts out:
A. Yes, have Poseidon not have a mental change after the Ares battle (you can leave suggestions of what battle is the best time to start his obsession)
B. No, leave it, it's fine as it is
C. Doesn't matter how he is
Any of these choices can be canon.
