Lexi POV
"Hey baby," Killian said, coming up behind me. "New year. We're not the newbies anymore!"I smiled. I couldn't believe Killian hadn't asked me out before our senior year. Maybe I would've spent less time thinking about that boy I'd texted for a month or two. God. It seemed so important then. But now he was nothing. Nobody. A nonexistent creature from my past.
But Killian been happily dating for three years now, and when we both got accepted into freaking Harvard, the college choice was obvious. Even if it was a crappy community college I would choose that. Just to be with him.
I haven't been talking much with Emmy or Elaine, as strange as that is. Emmy was going to Notre Dame University in, like, Maryland or somewhere. She came out as lesbian just before graduation, and she now had a girlfriend named Cathie. Elaine didn't go to college, because she ran away with her boyfriend Xander. Last I heard, they eloped in Vegas and had two kids: 2 year old Ava and 1 year old Harvey. Rose went to community college with Shawne, and they are currently engaged.
"Yeah. Finally. God. I can't believe we're college sophomores. It seems like just yesterday we were, like juniors."
"Yeah. I know what you-"
"Hey! Killian!"
"Gotta go, sweetheart. See you later." Killian kissed my forehead before running off to meet Jacob and Nolan.
I sighed and went to my dorm, where my roommate, Kate, was already unpacking.
"Hey Kate."
She spun around. "Alexandra! Oh, it's been so long!"
I had dropped the nickname Lexi around senior year. Killian called me Lex sometimes, but that was about all I heard of it anymore.
"Yep. Three months," I giggled. "I missed you so much!"
She nodded enthusiastically. "C'mon. You can unpack later. Everyone else is at the library!"
By 'everyone else' she meant our friends. When I got into Harvard, I thought it was a joke. When it proved to be true, I was afraid everyone here would be stuck up. But there were perfectly normal people here. Just really smart perfectly normal people.
Anyway, the only reason I got into Harvard is because after that dumb One Direction obsessed boy, I just ate, slept, and studied for a year. Once I got over him completely, it was a habit.
Kate and I hurried to a library not far from our dorm, where we immediately found our group of friends: Stella, Nikita, Alison, Maria, Sydney, and Piper.
"Kate!" Nikita said. "You're good with makeup, right? Can you help me cover this pimple?"
Kate nodded.
"Alexandra," Sydney said. "How was your summer?"
"Great! How was yours?"
"Oh, wonderful."
---
I went back to my room a little earlier than the others in order to unpack. I put in Four, One Direction's new album. Despite being over him, I was still somehow drawn to the pop band.
Grinning, I screamed along to Steal My Girl, knowing no one else was in their dorm.
A/N: PLOT TWIST. okay so please don't leave. I promise it all works out in the end. MAYBE ;)
