(Finale) Chapter 16: My Flashlight in the Dark

~Skye~ 

"I'm here again." I looked around to see monastery debris. Flames ate away bodies and disintegrating them to dust. 

"More like we're here again." I heard Kyle's voice from afar. 

"Kyle, how did you get here?" 

"I don't know myself. I've been receiving these dreams, memories, and flashbacks. I've been trying to figure out why I've been seeing these images repeatedly in my head." 

"Maybe we can delve further?" 

"Well, it's almost morning. We should be going to school now." We turned in the opposite direction. "Oh and by the way sister? I found the picture of the entire family a long while ago. There's no need to hide it."

He grinned and left the monastery. I looked around, scanning the debris and flames. Maybe it's time to illuminate the darkness. It's time to see the truth. 

"Skye... I'll be your flashlight." I heard a familiar voice. It's him... "I'll show you the way out of the darkness. Everything will be revealed. Also, you're still as beautiful as ever."

I looked around, all the flames disappearing. Debris brushed away. The answer was sitting on a chair.

"Skye?" Luke shook me awake. "Why were you murmuring in your sleep?" 

"Oh, just a dream..." 

"Come here." Luke pulled me closer to him. 

His hug though... I didn't feel anything. Why though? 

"Hm, what's wrong?" 

"Oh it's that your hug makes me feel warm and safe." Luke smiled and pecked my lips. Lies. All lies. 

I did not feel the usual spark that travels up and down my spine. I felt nothing. Maybe I should just be out of his life. I don't hate him... I just lost the love for him. 

When Luke went to fix breakfast for us, I pulled out my phone and began to text to a number anonymous to Luke. 

Hey Caleb, 

In two days, take me to see the rest of the Mark of Scath. I'm interested now. I want to become a full member. Would you please do that for me? 

Skye

Skye... Sure. I see that you have finally come to your senses. The leader will be excited about your arrival.

In two days, Luke will be on tour. I'm facing the awful truth now. I don't love Luke anymore. It feels like my heart is yearning for someone I had not seen for a long time. 

"Luke, can we talk in private outside?" 

"Hm, what's wrong?" He asked, probably expecting the worst. 

"Luke... I don't have the same feelings for you anymore." I told him, emotionlessly. "It all makes sense now. The dreams I had been getting... It was you. Your past was the darkness clouding all my senses. Also, our relationship won't work out if we continue to keep secrets from each other." A few tears trickled down his face.

"So what are you saying?" Luke cried, trying to pull me back. 

"Good-bye Luke. I'm going to be out of your life... forever." I disappeared into the shadows.

~A week later~

"I'm sure you will know my squad leader. I'm also sure you will love the Mark of Scath. It will be your new nakama." Caleb pushed me through the hallways. He opened a door. As soon as he opened it, I felt heart grow warm. A few tears trickled down my face.

"Silas?" I gasped. 

"Skye, you're just as beautiful as ever." He lifted my chin. "I'll be your flashlight in the dark. Just like I said before?" 

"I..."

The sequel will be called Decode and it takes place a year after Skye joined the Mark of Scath.
