"I need you to fill out this form, " the officer said as he placed it in front of me.

Another tear fell and dampened the paper in the process.

"Thanks," I whispered, my head still hanging low.

I read over the contents and saw that it was a regular form to collect my statement.

"Before you fill that out, I would love to ask you some questions."

I looked up and saw a fairly handsome man, sitting across from me; Detective Constantine, as he'd introduced himself. He was tall, hovering over me when he first led me into the interrogation room and stared at my face with a pair of crystal blue eyes. He played a small smile on his lips, I assume to try and calm me but I don't think it'll be a feat easily achieved given the circumstances.

I nodded.

"Alright, what's your relationship with Celine?" He asked, the sound of her name coming from his lips made me flinch. All I could think, what kept me up at night, what had me weeping in my father's arms and underneath the sheets, was if Celine was alive.

Another sob escaped from my lips and I broke my gaze with the detective, "She's my best friend."

The detective hummed, "When was the last time you've seen her?"

A/n: commercial break. Hello there. It's been quite a while. How have you been? I've been busy and put this book down to focus on some things. But I'm back and I've learned quite alot. I hope you can spot the difference in my writing style and grammar from here on out. There's not much left to complete in this book so I wanted to they it over with. Enjoy the rest!

Fingers crossed that I remember the plot.

I sucked in a sharp breath when I remembered. "At the club. We went there to have fun but she got drunk. She was upset about—"

I stopped myself, not sure if it's a good idea to talk about Professor Norman.

"About what, Alaina?"

I bit my lip as I contemplated. I don't want him to be seen as a suspect but if it will help find my friend then I'd do it.

"She was upset about her breakup."

Detective Constantine raised a blonde brow. "She was going through a breakup? Do you know her boyfriend's name?"

My heart began to thump inside my chest when I realized the hole I was about to dig. Will the professor get in trouble?

"Well, it's not exactly her boyfriend but our professor."

His pen hovered over the paper as he stared a hole in my face. "Celine was dating her professor? What's his name? Do you know what course he teaches?"

I shook my head and shifted in my seat. This wasn't a good idea. I should leave. If anybody's life is ruined it would be all my fault.

He reached over and rested his palm on top of my hand. I looked over with a blurred vision, trying to fight back tears.

"It's okay," he whispered. "You're doing this to help your friend. You're not doing anything wrong. I just have to cover all grounds."

I nodded, still biting my cheek. "Okay...his name is Professor Norman and he teaches psychology."  I can do this. I'll find you, Celine.

After the detective took my statement I was free to leave. My father gave me his car so I didn't have to take a taxi home. Especially in those dangerous times.

The night was still chilly but a strange stillness had settled over the atmosphere. I rubbed my hands up and down my arms, brushing the strange feeling off as paranoia, and rushed to my car.

Once I was in the confines of my vehicle, I felt like I could breathe again. I rested my head against the wheel and took two deep breaths before turning the key in the ignition.

I drove off without problems and I found my shoulders slowly relaxing the more I drove out of the city. The tall building disappeared and was replaced by tall trees.

The dark dense forest drew my attention but I tried to focus on the road instead of it. Yet, it reminded me of that night. That horrifying night. The man in the grotesque mask that hovered over me with a man's severed head dangling in his hand.

The way he spoke to me in that low voice sent shivers down my spine. What he said.

"This is just the beginning of the most beautiful art, Alaina. You'll get to be a part of my master piece."

What does that even mean? Ever since then, I've been on edge. Looking over my shoulder and not leaving home. Hopefully, they can catch this bastard.

A warm breath slowly left my nose as I tried to ease the tightness in my shoulders. I was trying not to be afraid for a couple of minutes. Just a couple of minutes.  But like everything else in life, it doesn't last.

I looked up in my rearview mirror to keep aware of my surroundings when I saw the most horrifying thing. A figure sitting behind me, wearing a blank black mask with a gaping hole as its mouth. Mimicking a silent scream.

The only thing that could leave my mouth was a sharp gasp before he lurched forward and put a plastic bag over my head.

My instincts screamed and my limbs instantly began to flail. Fight or flight kicked and adrenaline coursed through my brain. I was trying not to crash and survive at the same time.

Muffled screams rang from my torn throat but the assailant only pulled the bag tighter over my face. I pulled at the plastic. Digging. Crying. Flailing.

Air began to fight for a space in my lungs but the only thing I felt was hot sand rubbing against the inside of my chest.

Is this how I die?

Daddy, please help me.

My hand reach out for the steering wheel as a last resort. Still trying to survive. I swing the car to the right. Hard. Wanting to disorient the man behind me but my effort was futile.

The bag pulled tighter. The last bit of air got squeezed out. I could feel a warm liquid leaking from my nose.

A loud crash followed by violent jerking shook the car. I crashed. But it wasn't enough. The car came to a halt. The bag remained. I stiffened against the seat as life left my body.

My eye began to roll over but before I could see black, a low, familiar voice whispered.

"Welcome home, Alaina. You're such a beautiful masterpiece."
