"This can't be real, how did—" I retreated as both my pointer fingers pointed at the two men, "Kyle, stop joking around, haven't you done enough?"
Cillian leaned against the doorframe with a smirk playing on his lips, while Kyle just stared. Cillian was the first to break the ice and the dangerous lilt in his voice startled me, he sounded like a whole different person.
"Sorry to break it to you like this hun but we're brothers."
My brows were still drawn together and my mouth had a slight part trying to let more air into my body. The room felt hot all of a sudden and a suffocating feeling clouded my chest. How was this possible, I would have never anticipated that they were related. I felt like a sheep lost in a dense forest, confused as to who's friend or foe; a wolf in sheep's clothing. Was he aware of his brother's killing spree this whole time? Was he aware that he'd been tormenting me, driving me crazy with fear? Only to pretend like an innocent bystander, a normal boyfriend who made mistakes and messed up. If that's the case then, who's the dangerous one here?
Suddenly I felt the urge to run, I started to step back, and when Kyle realized what I was about to do his eyes lowered.
"Run all you want little mouse but know you won't get very far," Cillian's smirk widened and a chill ran up my spine.
I began to hyperventilate as the brothers watched me, Kyle sighed and tried to reach out to me but I was already gunning for the front door. Crap! It was downstairs, but I didn't care, I just wanted to get away. I didn't hear footsteps behind me and I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing but I just kept running. My feet flew in the air as I ran off the steps of the top floor, almost tumbling down and twisting my ankle in the process but in the pursuit of the door I felt nothing.
I bolted down the first hall, unsure where to go, and followed wherever my feet led me. Eventually, I can out into a massive living room, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a large backyard. I ran to the glass door and twisted the knob, hoping, praying that it was open but it wasn't. I ran again, searching each wall for an exit but came up short.
Feeling defeated and trapped, I resorted to beating the glass panes and screaming for help, "Please! Someone help me!" I banged and kicked the glass but the stupid thing wouldn't budge.
I heard footsteps coming in my direction and leaped from my position to hide behind a wall that separated the living room from everything else. I covered my mouth with my hands to silence the whimpering and looked around for a weapon, there was a kitchen at the far end but I was scared to run and alert whoever was coming.
"Celine?" I heard Kyle calling, I flinched at the sound of his voice, a voice that used to make me clench my legs, one that got me to do anything. Now, that voice meant danger, a sweet sound luring me in to then devour me.
"Come out Celine, while I'm asking nicely, I'm not here to hurt you," his voice got closer, a part of me still wanted to obey, still ached at his command, his deep voice still made goosebumps pepper my skin and that was the sick part.
I knew if I got caught there would be no escaping.
I zoned in on the kitchen and decided that it was now or never. I sprinted on the tip of my toes and reached the corner in time to grab a knife from the knife holder and hide behind the far wall, separating the kitchen from the pantry.
It was a close call because Kyle rounded the corner just in time. I tried to steady my breathing and search the room that I was in for a way out but there was none.
Okay, you can do this!
"It wasn't all fun and games for me Celine, I started to fall in love with you but things got complicated. I tried to push you away but you wouldn't listen, they were going to kill you and I couldn't allow that to happen."
