They grew up together. Always at each others sides. Best friends until the end.
The end came much sooner than either would've wanted.
Ripped apart by the winds of a desert fire, the two lost each other.
Now years later they haven't spoken since, u...
The familiar voice traveled to AJ's ears as the person walked into the changing room. AJ quickly turned around and a large smile grazed her mouth as her eyes landed on him.
"Edmundo Diaz! In the flesh!" She laughed as she walked over to Eddie and hugged him tightly. It hadn't really been that long since they last saw each other - but AJ was always a little bit much.
"Ah, I didn't think I'd be seeing much of you after training AJ." Eddie spoke into the hug.
"Well you can't get rid of me that easy Ed." She said as they pulled away from the hug. "I didn't know you were part of this team! What a relief, now I'll know at least one person likes me here."
"Don't be silly AJ you're gonna worm your way into everyone's heart very quickly- you did it in training, you'll do it here." He spoke sincerely to her.
Not if he's here. The thought was in her mind before she could even stop it.
"Okay, everyone over here!" Bobby called out to most of A-shift, only those that are late aren't there. "Now I know that Eddie only started a few days ago but we've got another probie joining us today. She should be here soon."
Everyone looked around, wondering why they need another probie - Buck had only just finished his year, and their team was full now after Eddie joined a few days ago.
Hen was really the only one that wasn't sceptical about the new arrival, "What do we know about her Cap?"
"Not a lot. She's been travelling around for the last couple years, hasn't been able to pick a job until now. So we gotta make sure she likes it here" He took a moment to look at all their faces before continuing, "She was in Eddie's class and was joint at the top with him. So she won't be all bad."
"Speaking of Eddie - where is he?" Chimney speaks for the first time in the conversation, eyes searching the station for the previously mentioned man.
"Yeah he's never late- I-I mean in the time he's been here, h-he hasn't been... late" Buck scratches the back of his neck as a blush forms on his face.
"I saw him walk in a couple minutes ago, I think he went to the changing rooms," Chim said as he nodded towards the changing rooms, that's when everyone turned their heads to see Eddie wasn't alone in there - he was with a girl, 'probably the new probie' Buck's mind helpfully provided him.
Bobby looked over as well and smiled when he noticed her, "well there she is." He started walking over, to greet her, "You people coming?" After he said that everyone started scrambling to walk with him - all eager to meet the new probie.
By the time they had all started walking towards the two in the changing rooms, they had already finished getting changed and were making their way into the main part of the station - still deep in conversation with each other, so much so that they didn't realise that they now had an audience.
"Hey Eddie you wanna introduce us to your new friend or what?" Chim called to the man.
"Ha ha. Very funny. This is Aurelia, she was in my class in the academy." Eddie smiled as he spoke, arm slung around AJ like second nature.
Whilst he was speaking AJ decided she would face her fear of seeing him again and turn around to meet her new team.
"Hey Aurelia I'm Henrietta Wilson, but everyone calls me Hen." The kind and beautiful woman spoke to AJ with a hand positioned for her to shake.
"And I'm Chim, it's nice to meet you Aurelia." The man smiled at her whilst she shook Hen's hand.
"Uhm. I actually go by AJ not Aurelia, but it's very nice to meet you all." She corrected with a smile on her face. She was still avoiding looking to her left where she knew a piece of a history she longed to leave behind was standing.
Buck stood to the side eyes wide, heart pounding in his ears, memories he had been pushing down coming to the surface. He hadn't seen Aurelia in years - not since...since... never mind it doesn't matter.
Seeming to notice the youngest man's silence Bobby decided to introduce him, "And this is Buck, he's not usually this quiet." Some quiet laughs were heard at his last comment.
"Usually? try this is the first time since he was here that's he's not talking our ears off." Chimney was laughing again, the laughs of everyone getting a little louder at his words.
But it was all background noise for him. Aurelia was here. She was here. She was okay. And she was here. In the station. Wearing LAFD uniform.
She came back.
He opened his mouth to speak - to say something, maybe 'yeah I know her, she was part of the life that I've kept secret from you guys for over a year' ... or something along those lines. But she beat him to it.
"It's nice to meet you Buck."
She was pretending that she doesn't know him. And yeah that - that stung.
He wanted to shout - to-to scream that they know each other- that they know each other. He knows every thing there is to know about Aurelia Annabelle Jones and she knows everything there is to know about Evan James Buckley.
But it was different now. He didn't know what she was like anymore. She had changed. She wasn't Angel anymore and he wasn't Cackles.
That was a different life.
It was different now.
"Yeah- it's- uh it's nice to meet you too." Is what he settled on.
If that was how she wanted to live, he would let her. She was much more effected then he ever was by what happened - mentally and physically.
So he would let her put it behind her. That didn't stop him from thinking about it though.
