"Listen Jake, I know that I probably should've thought about it a bit more" AJ spoke into the phone "But I know that firefighting is going to be good, okay?"

"AJ, you've said that about the last like - five jobs. How can you be so sure about this one?" Jacob had always looked out for Aurelia, always the voice of reason when he thought she was about to make a mistake- and now was no different.

"Jake I know that you don't like this. I know that I might see things I wished I'd never see again on the job. But I also know what I want. And this is it." she sighed as she spoke through the phone to her friend. "I want to be able to help people... for most of my working life I wasn't able to help- I-I was always the one hurting people. But now I have a chance to do real good."

"I know AJ. I know. I just- I worry about you still. When you came back you were so... not you." Jacob has been the one to see her break down, and has been the one to help build her back up. He's her person. "Anyway if you're actually serious about this job it might be a good idea that you're not late on your first day" Jacob started chuckling to himself at the end of his sentence.

"Oh fuck!" AJ shouted as she finally looked at the time and realised she was running behind, "I gotta go Jake but I'll call you later, promise." She didn't wait for his response before hanging up and grabbing her duffle bag.

She paused as she looked at her bedside table and noticed her frame, the picture of her and her old team all together before... well before.

Reaching over, she placed the frame face down and whispered a quick, "sorry." to herself before rushing out her room and to her car.

"Fuck I'm gonna so late!" she muttered to herself as she buckled herself into her car and started the engine.

The car ride was shorter than AJ had expected it to be - probably because she sped a little to make sure she wouldn't be late.

She hastily parked around the corner to station, grabbed her duffle and quickly made her way towards her new job.

Apparently she was going to be the second probie at the station in a week - some other guy had started a couple days ago.

Walking through the station she could spot a couple people all in a group together, talking and laughing.

"Yeah and then Eddie-" The voice travelled to her ears and she almost froze right where she was. That voice. She knows that voice.

Despite her brain wanting her to stop and stare at them until he sees her, she keeps moving, trying to find the captain - or at least the changing room.

The changing room has glass walls.

Great.

Whose fucking idea was that? A little perverted in AJ's mind.

She doesn't really care that much though. She's never been insecure of her body, just hopes that if someone were to see any of her scars they would at least have the common courtesy to not ask her about them.

She had just pulled on her LAFD issued shirt when someone she recognised walked into the changing room.

"AJ is that you?"
