It was December 26th, Boxing Day, meaning your husband, Jobe had a football game today.

Unlike Spain or Germany, English football continued over Christmas so there was always a chance you would be at home without Jobe on Boxing Day.

As you were sitting at home with your two children, Dylan, three years old, and Claire who just turned one, your husband was at the stadium with his parents and brother watching him.

It saddened you sometimes, that you couldn't go and watch the game in person but Jobe and you were always very concerned about your privacy and since you became parents, that feeling of having to protect them only increased.

The public didn't know anything about you or your children and most of the time, you were very content about that.

But recently, you and Jobe talked about making your relationship public, since it only became harder with the birth of your second child.

You never got the chance to properly go on a date or a stroll just the four of you, always scared about someone seeing you. And the urge of being able to love Jobe loudly only got bigger.

Especially on days like this, when his whole family was here, watching him, and the three most important people in his life weren't able to.

So when the game ended in a draw, Jobe couldn't ignore the interviews he had to give, given his man-of-the-match award. But deep down, all he wanted was to get home to you.

As he stood there, waiting for the reporter to ask his first question, his thoughts were on you, obviously watching the interview from home, he knew that.

"Jobe, Congratulations on your Man of the Match award. Are you happy with your performance today?" the reporter asked, starting the live interview.

"Overall, I think so. Of course, it's always bitter to not take all three points with you but overall it was a good team performance today, yeah," he answered, smiling slightly.

"How is it for you, playing on boxing day? I saw your family was here today. Is it easier like that?"

"Uhm, I do enjoy boxing day games to be honest if my family is here, yeah. It's a big plus that Spain has off over Christmas, so it's nice to have my brother here." Jobe answered, only speaking about his public family.

"How is it with celebrating Christmas? Do you have time to wrap all the presents and celebrate much?"

"Since I always have training over the Christmas days, I mostly spend the Christmas day itself at home with my close family, to be honest. I'm lucky that my wife is keeping track of all the presents and the cookie baking with the kids." He chuckled, but his soon eyes turned wide, mirroring your expression at home.

He just completely and accidentally confessed your whole relationship to the public, without even thinking about what he was saying.

"I-I'm sorry, can you cut that out?" Jobe asked, desperately looking at the reporter and the camera team behind him.

"This was life, Jobe. I'm sorry." The reporter said, cameras being shut off already, sympathy evident in his voice.

"Oh... I- I gotta go, I'm sorry." Jobe answered, hurriedly racing through the media people and racing to get to the car park where his family was waiting for him. He needed to see you, he knew you were watching and he needed to make this right as soon as possible.

As he rushed through the stadium he almost ran past his parents and Jude, too focused on getting home.

"Jobe!" Jude shouted, "What happened?" he asked as he saw his brother turn around.

"I fucked up. I need to get home." Jobe explained, his teary eyes staring up at his older brother.

"Jobe, what's wrong?" Denise cut in, suddenly growing concerned about her son.

"It slipped. In the interview. I slipped talking about Y/N and the kids. I fucked up bad, Mum." he said desperately, regret evident in the way he spoke.

"Oh, Jobe" Denise sighed, "Go on then, we'll see you tomorrow at lunch okay?"

"Yeah, thank you guys for coming today," Jobe whispered the last part, feeling guilty about not being able to enjoy the rest of the night with his family.

As he arrived home, sprinting to the front door and unlocking it as quickly as he could, he arrived in the living room, standing breathless in the doorway.

The house was quiet, nothing unusual tho, since the kids should already be in bed at this time. But he felt it too, the mood was uncomfortable.

His eyes quickly scanned the kitchen and then the living room, spotting you, sitting unbothered on the couch, watching something on your phone.

"Babe?" He called out, walking towards you.

As you felt the couch dip beneath his weight, you looked up at him, your tear-streamed face hit him like a knife in the heart.

"Baby, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to tell, honestly. I just- I was thinking about you- and the kids, it just slipped, I never wanted to ruin what we had, I'm-" Jobe rambled but was quickly interrupted by your voice.

"Jobe. It's okay. It's fine we talked about publicly announcing it, it just happened a little differently than we imagined." You said, the scared tone in your voice betraying your words.

"Why were you crying if it's okay?" Jobe whispered, his voice cracking just slightly.

"I-I'm just scared, Jobe. I've never been in the public eye, ever. I just- I have to get used to it I guess." You explained, your voice growing quieter with each word.

"We'll work this out, okay? You don't have to be scared, baby. I'll always be here and I will always protect you and the kids, always, with everything I own. We will work on this slowly, okay?" He said, his hand stroking your tear-strained cheek.

"Yeah, thank you." You answered, leaning your face into his warm palm.

"I love you, baby. You don't have to thank me. We're together that's all that counts, okay?" He said quietly, pulling you into his arms and kissing the top of your head ever so slightly.

"Not too much damage's done. They just know you have a wife and kids, not who or how many or for how long. I love you, Jobe." You said, leaning into his touch, now feeling safer than ever.
