It was time for Leire to attend her first match as a WAG. Even if for most people, she had been doing that for a while. The pre-match routine was the same as always except for the good luck kiss she shared with Robin before he left to join the rest of the squad.
The way she worried about everything going well during the match also slightly changed. Leire felt a lot more nervous whenever Robin had the ball. Defenders couldn't make one single mistake so, not for the first time, she kind of wished Robin was a striker.
"Oh thank God!"
"Why were you so nervous today? It was a pretty easy match", told her one of the other WAGs.
"Just wanted a clean sheet".
"Because of Robin?"
Now everyone was looking at Leire, their eyebrows raised. Because, even if she felt the same way before, Leire never made it so clear how much she worried about Robin's performances.
"So...maybe you should know that Robin and I...".
"Oh my God!"
Everyone there started to scream and jump around Leire. They seemed so...happy. And what Leire didn't understand was that all the other partners of Atleti players loved her. They loved having her around and hanging out with her, so finding out she was dating Robin was perfect. Now she was fully a part of the group.
"You're one of us", said Beatriz, Koke's wife. "Finally".
"Do I get a membership card or something?"
Leire couldn't leave before she explained to them what had happened and how she finally started to date Robin. No one was surprised by the fact they were dating...they had just been waiting for them to finally take that step.
"I need to go, sorry", she said, getting up and picking up her bag. "Robin must be waiting for me. We're going to have dinner at a restaurant before we go back home".
"Just one thing", told her Beatriz, grabbing her arm and separating her from everyone else. "So we have a little event for the team's foundation soon. It's to collect food and clothes for those in need".
"Ok. You do those often, right?"
"Yeah. Do you want to come help?"
"Sure", Leire felt excited about that. She had helped when Robin played for La Real and knew it was so helpful to have as many volunteers as possible.
"If you're going to be with Robin...well, the fans appreciate seeing we care about the team. Not just about the players but about those who support the team as well. This is an easy way to show it".
"Sounds good. Send me the details so I know when and were to go".
"Will do. Go see your man now".
Leire smiled at Bea and walked faster so she could be back in the parking lot soon. Robin was waiting for her and thinking about whether he should text Leire or something. It was so strange that she was late.
"There you are. I thought you got lost".
"No", chuckled Leire. "But the girls found out about us and they wanted to know all about it so...they kidnapped for a minute".
"So I can even kiss you where my teammates and their partners could see us? Crazy".
"They might take photos like we're a tourist attraction", she laughed.
"Are they happy about this?"
"Too happy almost. And I got invited to go to an event the foundation is doing next week. To help".
"I'll be there too", said Robin, happy to know Leire would be a part of that day too. "It'd be nice to have you there with me".
"It'd be nice to be there with you", she said, smiling at her boyfriend.
When the day of the event arrived, Leire felt a bit nervous. Everyone wanted to talk to her and it was overwhelming. But some fans brought her books so she could sign them and that felt so special. It felt like her worries about her latest book not selling well because of the awful TikTok video happened years ago and not months. The purpose of her being back in Robin's life was to make sure the book sold well...and it did. But she could never now if it was because of him or if it would have anyway. Hearing some of the comments those fans made, she guessed the book would have done alright no matter what and that meant so much to her.
"We need to take these bags to the storage area", said Bea and Leire could notice how tired she was of doing that for hours.
"I'll do it".
"Really? Thank you".
"It's not a problem".
The bags were pretty heavy. They were throwing everything inside of them without stopping to think what was inside and how to make sure no bag was too heavy. So when Leire made it to the storage area, she decided she could try to organize the place a little. She couldn't take too long and leave the others with less help outside but having a minute to be by herself sounded really good too.
"Here. I got it".
Leire looked up and saw it was Robin who had helped her not drop the box she was holding. "Thank you".
"Are you doing ok here?"
"Yes", she smiled. "Just wanted to organize this a bit but I'll go back outside now. They're probably missing me".
"Can I have a kiss before you go?"
"Maybe...".
Maybe Leire and Robin weren't a tourist attraction for the rest of the people that were part of the club but they were for those who followed it. And soon they both found out that someone had taken a photo of them kissing to post it online.
"Is it normal that I want to laugh?", asked Leire, laughing before Robin answered.
"I want to laugh too but I didn't because I worried about you not being ok".
"That's nice", she could barely talk because of how much she was laughing. "But I don't care. I don't know...after all we've been through it's like...who cares?"
"Ok", was all Robin said, still laughing as well.
"Oh, people know we're together and we kiss...big deal!"
"You don't know how relieved I am to know you feel that way".
No one was more relieved than Leire, though. It had always worried her so much how being Robin's friend made people think they could say whatever they wanted about her but...she didn't care now. And it felt so great.
"Can I post this video then?"
"Which one?", asked Leire when Robin showed her his phone.
"I took it yesterday".
Leire smiled watching the video. It showed Leire sleeping and then Pistacchio moved closer to her and she hugged him without waking up. "Ok. Post it".
"I'll put it on my stories. I've watched it so many times since I filmed it".
It felt amazing to be able to do things like that without caring. Because Leire had learned not to care about what people who didn't know her thought about her life. However, when it was people she knew and cared about...
"Leire! Come here!"
"What is it?", she asked Robin, who was looking at the TV and turned to stare at her. She could see the worry in his face. "Robin, what is it?"
"You can watch it yourself".
And what she found on TV was something she never expected to see. The people in the show were talking about her relationship with Robin. About how it was actually a lie. And the one who had found out the big exclusive...it was Fran.
