Ares the Greek god of war who symbolizes and is war itself and everything that war represents: death, pain, destruction, etc. and the Roman side of the god is Mars.
In the Percy Jackson books, Ares is described as a large, strong man who wears a red shirt, jacket and black pants, with combat boots and a cruel or bloodthirsty grin. Ares is also described as a motorcyclist and the Lightning Thief book actually uses a motorcycle.
In his Roman appearance, Mars despises war without reason and fighting with skill alone. He uses strategy in battle and urges his children to do the same. He is more mature than his Greek form and has a sense of honor. He is a rather informal and to-the-point kind of deity, preferring to do away with formal speech and wastes no one's time with his presence any longer than he has to. And Mars is described as a soldier of various nations.
And in both cases his eyes seem to be made of the fire of war.
