Chapter 6: What Could Be Worse

I woke up to a loud voice over the intercom. "Everyone needs to meet in the gymnasium at this moment."  

"I would like to know what this is all about." Jayden said. We walked down together and sat by Ethan and Claire. 

"Anyone else confused?" Ethan asked.

"Yeah." Claire and I both replied at the same time.

Then I saw a scientist begin to talk in a microphone. "Attention everyone. I bet you are all wondering why I brought you here. Well, you should be glad that we kidnapped you and changed you into a creature. 

"How could I be happier." Ethan sarcastically joked.

"You may think we're evil, but really we helped save your life. I'll show you what we mean." 

There was a white screen behind him that began to show a video. "Our enemies have started taking families and destroying them. This is almost the end of the human race. The reason we captured you is so you wouldn't end us like this." The screen showed a family, they were all tied to chairs in a dark room. Then, I heard a gun shot. The family sat their motionless. Dead.

They continued to show us this but with different families and they all were killed differently. Then, I saw my mom, dad, and Pandora. They were standing at the edge of tall skyscraper. A man was pushing them towards the edge. He pushed them too far. I turned to hug Jayden and cry in his shoulder. "Why? Why did they do this?" I cried out. 

"That's it. I'm taking Phoenix back to our room. She can't handle this." Jayden told Claire and Ethan. "Phoenix, let's go."

We slowly trailed back to our room. As soon a the door was closed Jayden said, "Phoenix, don't believe them. Everything they said wasn't true, they're just trying to scare you."

"But why would they do that? Show us how their enemies are killing our families?" I cried.

"Phoenix, enough." Jayden sternly told me. "You need to forget about what you just saw."

"How can I? That was my family."

"Phoenix, what did I tell you? What do you need to do for your family? What do you need to do for me?"

"Be strong." I sniffled. 

I trusted Jayden but I'm not sure if I could believe him this time. 

"No matter what those scientists who call themselves 'good' tell you or show you, you need to be strong. Now please try and forget about all this." 

The intercom come interrupted us and said, "Tomorrow you will notice a change. Either in yourself or your environment." Then went off and left us in silence.

I knew this couldn't be good. First, I get kidnapped and taken into an abandon skyscraper where I will never see my family again. Then they turn me into a phoenix. Now they kill my family and tell me tomorrow I'm going to notice a change.

What could be worse then this?
