The man took us into, what looks like an abandon skyscraper. We use the back door, probably so no one sees us. He takes us down a long hall and throws the girl into a room. Then, we walk a little farther and I try to escape. I kick his leg and it must hurt because he lets go of me. I run down the hall but he catches me and knocks me out.
Where am I? The floor is cold. I open my eyes and see a boy sitting across the room. He is wearing a black sweatshirt. He has short brown hair and green eyes. I sit up and look around. We are in a white room with only a door on one wall. I scoot over to the opposite wall from the boy. He just stares at me before he asks, "You know what's gonna happen to you, don't you?"
"No." I said softly.
"Well, I hope you got one last really good long look at yourself, because you're gonna change."
"What do you mean?" He pulls his hands out of his sweatshirt pocket to reveal animal hands. Or should I say paws.
"They take you into a room and strap you in a chair. Then they take a needle with some liquid in it and stab you in the arm." They started to turn me into a tiger, but they have to finish today." He says.
"Am I gonna be a tiger too?"
"Nope. We're all something different."
"Why do they do this to us?"
"The scientists are going to destroy the world. So they take people and start changing us so we can adapt to a new environment once our old one is gone."
We sat there for a while in silence then he finally said, "My name's Jayden."
"I'm Phoenix. How long exactly have you been here?"
"Two months. When they turn you into something else you're not strong right away. You have to strengthen. That's what I've been doing for two months, since there's nothing else to do." Jayden replied.
"So how long does it take to change someone?"
"Usually two or three days. So far, only my hands and upper body are done."
"Do we still look a little bit like ourselves when were done?" I asked.
"I have no idea. I haven't seen anyone else."
I start to hear the door creak open but I don't look back. A man in a white lab coat comes and grabs my arm, he starts to pull me out but I try to fight back. "Phoenix, just let him take you." Jayden yelled. "You can do this. Be strong and have courage."
The man pulls me into a room just like Jayden described. He straps me into a white chair. I try to remember what Jayden said. I have to be strong and have courage. I sit still and see him bring over a needle with orange liquid in it. He stuck it in my arm and this was the most painful shot I've ever gotten.
The scientist unstraps me and drags me back to my room. He throws me down and slams the door. "I'm not seeing any difference." I said.
"Just wait. In a few minutes you'll start to feel it." Jayden told me. He started telling me how the pain gets worse. Then, I start to feel horrible pains in my back. It felt like someone was hitting me with a metal bar.
"Ahh. My back." I cried out.
"It's gonna hurt for a while." Jayden told me.
I tried to fall asleep so I can forget the pain. Luckily, I do.
