Tsubaki

Chapter 8

It's currently Saturday morning. Aoi is making breakfast while Yuki and my dad are watching TV. Mari is still asleep. I don't know what Mitsu and Matsu are doing but I'm laying hear reading my book. My music gets interrupted by a text message. It's from Rei.

~Good Morning. I know this is very last minute but can you watch Mei tonight? I got called to cover a night shift. I would ask Izumi but he already has plans and I really don't trust my dad. She still sick so the neighbor can't watch her because they have a baby. Please?~

~I have to ask but what time do you have to go?~

~The shift is from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. You'll probably have to tell them that your staying the night.~

~I'll see what I can do.~

~Ok.~

I got up from my bed and went down stairs. I sat down in the living room with my dad and Yuki. Yuki was playing with some toys and my dad was watching the news.

"A friend of mine parents are going out of town until tomorrow. They asked me if I could help them watch their little sister for the night." I said.

"Is this a friend from school?" He asked.

"Yes."

"Are you going to stay the night?"

"Yea. Their sister has separation anxiety and my friend thinks it would be better have two people with her than just them by themselves."

"Well I don't see why you could go. Now go tell your mom." He said. I got up and mutter step-mom in German so he didn't know what I said. I texted Rei on the way to the kitchen.

~I can watch Mei tonight.~

~You're a life saver. Thank you. ^_^~

"Tsubaki can you set the table?" Aoi asked. I nodded and took the dishes off the counter. I set the table while Aoi set the food out.

"I won't be here tonight. I'm going to go help a friend watch their little sister." I said.

"Ok." Aoi replied. We finish setting the table and Aoi called for everybody to eat. For the rest day I read and texted Cammie. Around 4:50 I start to get ready. I changed into a part of black leggings and my Twenty-one Pilots pull over. In my bag I put a change of clothes, my phone charger, and my book. I grabbed my red high tops, you can never go wrong with converse, and went downstairs.

"I'm leaving now." I said towards the living room. Aoi came out of the living room before I turned to leave. She pulled money out of her purse and handed it to me.

"I really don't need this." I said handing it back to her.

"Take it. You'll never know." She said putting it back into my hand. She turned and went back in to the living room. I put the money in one of the smaller  pockets of my back and left. Before I started walking I looked the map Rei drew me. This map has came in handy a lot. It only took half an hour to walk from my house to Rei's. He lived on the fifth floor in the apartment at the end. I rang the door bell and waited. Rei answered the door. He was blushing a little bit out of embarrassment. I could see it under his glasses. He wasn't wearing anything but a towel loosely around his waist. I couldn't help blushing either. He was hot. He had the body of a swimmer. I could see his tattoos and his hipster glasses made it ten times better. Remember I'm a teenage girl I can check out him out if I want to.

"Tsubaki I wasn't expecting you this early. Come in." He said stepping aside to let me in. "I'll be right back. Make yourself at home." He added then went to a room. I started to look around. I passed the kitchen on my way to the living room. I didn't see Mei anywhere. Rei came out of what was his room this time he was dressed and was wearing contacts now

"Mei is sleeping." He said. He went over to a door that was slight ajar and motion for me to come here. It was Mei's room. We moved away form the door so we didn't disturb her. "She's been asleep for a while so she hasn't ate and I don't know if she'll wake up. You might have to wake her up to give her medicine at eight. Its on the table. Other than that I guess you can watch Tv. Thank you so much. You really are a life saver. I owe you."

"It's fine." I said.

Rei looked at the clock on the wall. " I guess I should go now. If anything happens call me and/or Izumi's. His number is on the fridge. Oh and here is a key just in case you go out. See you later."

"Bye." I put the key on the table next to Mei's medicine. I went over to the couch, took off my bag and sat down. It's almost six o'clock and at eight I need to give Mei her medicine. I pull out my book and started reading.

Around seven thirty Mei woke up. She came out of her room and went to the bathroom. She came back sat on the couch. She was still half asleep. A couple minutes later she was aware. At first she looked at me but didn't say anything.

"What are you doing here Tsubaki?" She finally said.

"I'm watching you while your dad is at work." I answered.

"Oh. That's right daddy went to work." She looked kind of sad.

"Are you hungry?" I ask remembering Rei said she hasn't ate in a while.

"Yeah." She said very sleepishly. I get up and walk over to the kitchen and started to look for something easy to make. I can't find any. Now what am I suppose to do? I stood there and started thinking. I could make grilled cheese. Maybe they have stuff at a convenient store for that and Aoi did give me money and changed from Monday. That's what I'll do.

"Mei go get a jacket. We're gonna to go on a quick walk." I said grabbing the key from the table, the money, and my phone. Mei came back with her jacket on.

"Here take your medicine before we go." I handed it the teaspoon to her. She took it without complaining and handed the teaspoon back to me. I put it in the sink then we went to put the on our shoes.

"Where are we going?" Mei asked on the way to the elevator.

"To a convenient store to see if they ingredients to make us something to eat." I answered.

"What are you going to make?"

"It's a surprise."

I was lucky that the convenient store had everything that I needed. When we got back I asked Mei were all the dishes were at. She sat the table and watched me. When I was done I sat the plates in front of us along with two cups of water.

"It's called a grilled cheese. It's one of my favorites." I said. She picked it up and took a bite.

"It's really good. I like it." She said. We finished our grilled cheese and started cleaned up.

"Can we make one for daddy?" Mei asked.

"Yeah." So I made another one and I put it on plate and saran wrapped it. Mei wrote a note to put next to the plate. Mei said she was tried so she brushed her teeth and went back to bed. I looked at her note. She missed spelled grilled cheese so corrected it. I also wrote on the bottom of it.

P.S. By the time you actually get this it might not be good.

I sat back down on the couch and read for a while. Before knew it I was asleep.
