A Necessary Decision

“Doctor, you must save him by all cost. Please, nothing must happen to him,” Becca pleadingly said as she cried while running with Martin's stretcher at the hospital.

“We can't guarantee anything. He was shot from behind. If the bullet has penetrated through his spinal cord, he might be paralyzed forever. He has also lost a lot of blood due to the far location he was brought from. We'll try our best, but his chances of survival are very slim,” the doctor sincerely said before entering the emergency room.

Ethan just stood at a distance as he watched his mother, Isabella and Becca crying bitterly while sitting outside the emergency room.

He looked at Martin's phone in his bloody hands, which he had picked up after Madison fainted.

“Let go of me. Where is Martin?” He heard Madison saying from behind.

“Miss, you look very pale, you should get some rest. You're not still well,” the nurses tried to hold her, but she shoved them aside and kept on running. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Ethan watching his mother.

“Martin…nothing must happen to him,” she said with a shaky breath before she ran to the others. Ethan quickly hid himself when they turned to prevent them from seeing him.

As he was heading out of the hospital, Martin's phone rang. He saw the caller ID as ‘Little Brother Liam'. With a heavy heart, he picked the call.

“Older Sister, have you found him? Is he fine?” He quickly said over the phone. There was silence for a while before Ethan took a deep breath.

“I ordered them to kill him. I'm not his real brother, my mother and father are different people, so why should he be kept alive? I wanted to get rid of him quickly, but when my life was in danger, he didn't hesitate to take the bullet in my place. He's currently in the emergency room…the doctor said…the doctor said his chances of survival are slim…” Ethan tried his best not to cry, but the tears just kept streaming down his cheeks.

“You jerk. Let's meet right now. I have something to tell you. You haven't done the right thing, Ethan. Come to the park right now,” Liam simply said before cutting the call. Ethan turned with his eyes that had turned crimson when he saw Mr Raphael staring at him.

“My poor nephew, it must have been hard for you, right? You must have felt so scared when a bullet was heading towards you, right? It's okay to cry it all out, hmmm? You have learnt a major truth about your life and Martin is in critical condition too. You…”

“I won't cry. Martin will live. Nothing will happen to him…so I won't cry,” Ethan interrupted him sharply before walking out of the hospital. Mr Raphael sighed deeply as he stared at Ethan with tears in his eyes.

“That's the same thing Martin said when your mother lost her baby. I hope this doesn't affect you beyond our control, Ethan,” he said to himself sadly.

Ethan ran to the park in the middle of the night with his entire body shaking. He was panting when he got there. Liam was standing there already with his face mask over his face.

“Why did you want to meet me?” Ethan asked softly. He seemed to be exhausted.

“You heartless jerk. Do you know what you have done? Older Brother came to meet me two months ago to help him find your mother. We didn't have any information about her, so it was hard to track her down. He wanted you to meet her just once. That was supposed to be his Christmas present to you. He didn't want to tell you about your birth, but he wanted you to see her. He has always thought about you. How could you think of ending his life?!” Liam sounded very upset, but Ethan just stared at him in shock.
