Memories Brought to Life

The cars kept honking as Ethan walked in the middle of the road in a disoriented state that night. There was blood all over his hands, but he was still in shock to do anything.

“Get out of the road! Are you crazy?!” One of the drivers shouted as he honked in annoyance, making Ethan to fall on the road.

“I killed my brother. I…I killed Martin. I also deserve to die. What have I done?” He thought in shock as tears welled up in his eyes.

Madison suddenly came out of the taxi she was in, and ran to him at once. She was shocked to see Ethan in despair. The blood in his hands surprised her even more, but she simply lifted him.

“I'm so sorry. Please, forgive him,” she apologized to the angry drivers as she crossed the road with him. She took him to a nearby stream, where she washed the blood from his hands gently.

“You shouldn't be moving around on the road like that. What if someone had ran you over? Do you know how worried your family would be?” She scolded him softly before bringing out a face towel from her bag, and wiping his hands with it.

“Why aren't you asking me what happened? Do you even know what I've done?” He wondered out loud as he moved backwards. She stared at him for a while before taking a deep breath.

“You're not a bad person, Ethan. I saw your sincerity that day at the beach. You were the one who helped me when I was sinking into the depths of despair after my father's death. Someone like that would never deliberately harm another person…”

“I stabbed Martin,” he suddenly blurted out, interrupting her. Madison's eyes widened in shock at once.

“Martin? What happened to him?” She said in puzzlement as she held Ethan's shoulders. He started crying again.

“I…I don't know what happened to me. I was going to stab my mother because I was convinced she doesn't care about me, but Martin got in the way. He stopped me from making the biggest mistake of my life. I shouldn't have done that. I deserve to die,” he said in one breath, and tried to jump into the stream when Madison suddenly hugged him from behind. His eyes widened in shock.

“Stop this. I have faith that Martin will be fine. He didn't want you to regret killing your mother, but I know this isn't you. You're a good person within, Ethan…so stop this. You might have anxiety disorder, but you're not a crazy person. Calm down. What will you gain by taking your own life? It'll only make the people around you sad and miserable, so please, don't even think of taking your life. I'll never forgive you if something were to happen to you,” she said in one breath while holding him tightly.

Ethan stared ahead for a while before he burst into tears.

“I'm so sorry. Forgive me. Please, forgive me,” he kept repeating as he cried. Madison didn't let go of him for a while.

“Dear God, please protect Martin. Don't let anything happen to him, I beg you. Give him the strength he needs to stay alive,” she prayed silently in her mind.

After a while, Madison took Ethan to a convenience store. She made him sit outside with her bag in his hand.

“Why are you leaving your bag with me?” He wondered in puzzlement, so she smiled faintly.

“So that you won't run away. You won't be able to run away with my bag. If you do, I'll report you as a thief,” she jokingly said before entering the convenience store. Ethan stared at her bag for a while before he smiled faintly, and clutched the bag even tighter.
