"This will be fun." Muttered y/n under her breath as she dressed herself in a more comfortable attire. She turned around, mumbling encouragement to herself as she tried to tighten the corset of her simple dress in vain.

The young woman sighed, letting her arms fall back on her sides harshly, looking down at her shoes in frustration.

"Do you... perhaps need any help?" Asked that familiar deep voice from the doorway.

Raising her eyes from the floor, her gaze fell on Sherlock's broad figure who was leaning against the frame of the door with his arms crossed over his chest. And that stupid smudge smirk.

She'd grown to hate it after they fell apart but these days... It seemed to bring feelings she wished she'd forget. It wasn't in her plans to go down that memory lane where her heart had been crushed like shards of glass would shatter with enough impact.

"Don't..." Started y/n before sighing again, knowing she had no choice. "Perhaps, I do."

Slowly, he pushed himself off the door frame, walking towards her with calm steps. Their eyes grazed each other's bodies, inspecting the others' manners as if searching for something that wasn't there.

Or, for all one knows, it was there, though imperceptible by the human eyes. Their hearts knew but their brains and their fear of rejections were far too strong. Their souls yearned for each other, yet, the current of doubts and worries were pulling them away concealing what could be... Again.

Gently, he turned her to face the mirror again, standing behind her in all his mightiness. He trailed his fingers over her back to assure himself the ties of the corset were well arranged with a frown of concentration etched on his face.

Y/n's e/c eyes trailed over his facial traits in the mirror, feeling his touch on her back. The wrinkles between his eyebrows, the sharpness of his cheekbones, the soft almost imperceptible dimples that would appear if he'd smile.

The rosiness of his lips, matching the perfection of his skin. The soft curl of his hair that always seemed to fall over his forehead in pure stubbornness. She blinked, trying to chase away the memories his closeness ignited.

She traced the delicateness of his eyes, the slight wrinkles on the corners of them, losing herself in the abyss of the color they held. In the soft silence, longing eyes met, comemoring of nights where they'd shared vulnerability.

Or more precisely, the first vulnerable night...

Start the music there...

His apartment, messy as ever, had welcomed them after a night out. They had danced. twirled and laughed under the festive music of whatever festivals, bars, feasts or events they could find.

It is as if he'd truly let go this night, taking memory of every smile, looks, every stolen kiss and gentle contact, engraving them in a cherished place of his mind.

Laughing softly, y/n let go of her coat, removing her shoes before plopping down on the small couch. "I don't even think I can stand in those again."

"You've danced the whole night in those. I told you it wouldn't be comfortable." He said in slight concern even though his heart fluttered at her soft smile.

"All of it was worth the pain, I assure you."

He walked around the room, the heels of his shoes making his steps known. "Tea?"
