Chapter 28
The whole situation involving Dolohov didn't bother me, at the end of the day he did call me a whore out of pure jealousy, men and their fragile masculinity. What is bothering me though, is the meeting I am supposed to attend this evening. From Malfoy's words, it's not going to be of pleasant topics. I am well aware of the interesting attitude between Slytherins and mud-bloods or even half-bloods, I just don't make myself one of those who possess those beliefs.
After curfew I snuck out of the dormitory to go to the mysterious, super secret meeting, I rolled my eyes, a bunch of pure-blood losers with a superiority complex. My leatherboot heel clicked against the stone floor, echoing through the whole floor, once I was in the right corridor the door just appeared, now that is some magic used for something groovy, I wondered how many knew of the room's existence.
I reached for freezing metal doorknob, it squeaked as I turned it and pushed myself inside, but the room looked way different than when I was last here. The walls were deep green and the room only had a large table right in the middle. There were two green suede leather sofas in the corner of the room, even the fireplace was green and the fire as well. Very patriotic for Slytherins.
I closed the door behind myself and took a breath only Riddle was here staring into the fire, his back facing the door. Air was thick and cold, and smelled like dust. "Nice of you to join." Riddle said, his voice breaking through the heavy air, still facing the fireplace. "Thank you for the kind invitation.'' I said, rolling my eyes as I went up to him. He said nothing no snarky remark, he didn't even look like he was inside his own body. "Are you feeling alri-" I didn't even get finish my question when the door banged open, Riddle spun around with a raged face and sat down at the end of the table. The gang got here, Malfoy, Lestrange, Dolohov and a few other random people I've seen around in classes.
But my, my what was with Dolohov's face, a bruised cheek, both his eyebrow and lip were split diagonally, my mouth gaped open slightly until Riddle snapped me out of my weird staring session. "Sit Y/L/N.'' he said, I plopped down expressionless.
"I have decided I want to try out The Slytherin's Basilisk. Someone is going to be unlucky.'' Riddle said as he manspread and put his arms on the armrests. Everyone was silent not even looking at Riddle, "Well? Is no one going to speak up?'' he asked standing up irritated he looking around the room, I looked up at him, "What is Slytherin's Basilisk?'' I asked as my hand lightly shot up as a reflex. "I'll catch you up after.'' Ruddle mumbled and looked around, "So, how is it going? What is the ministry doing in dark arts? Are you all deaf?'' He groaned looking at everyone.
"The ministry have been very loose with restricting dark arts, not a lot of incidents so no need to worry, I spoke with father, he is on the parent committee, Dumbledore has nothing on us, he didn't even mention anything in last week's meeting. Next week I will be going to the ministry, I will try to get 'The Anatomy of a Broken Spirit' book, for the horcruxes.'' Lestrange said folding his arms over his chest. "Good, also, Dolohov you're going to be stalking and spying from now on, I will practice dark arts with Y/L/N, she's more efficient and less dramatic.'' Riddle said looking at me, Dolohov finally looked up from his lap, shock written all over his face.
"But you can't do that, that was my place since we started, now you are switching everything up just because she is here.'' He stood up and pointed to me, his voice laced with poison and accusation. "You're lacking Dolohov, no need for you as my right hand, rest until your face is presentable and synapses are connected, you all are dismissed.'' Riddle said as he stood up and the door appeared on the far wall. "Next meeting is on Friday don't be late, now get out.'' He said and turned to face the fireplace, I stood up and was about to leave, "Where do you think you're going?'' he turned and asked, everyone already left, the door shut and disappeared, I stopped in place and turned my heels around to face him again, his wand was out, I started stepping back, my breath hitched and my heart started pounding in my head, "Riddle, what are you doing?'' I asked as I started reaching for my wand in my robes, hands shaking. "If you're in this association you need to know, there are people who will want to get information out of you, you need to be prepared for that.'' He said and trapped me between himself and the wall, his wand digging into my right rib.
"Riddle, don't be stupid.'' I said looking into his eyes, ''Have you ever been under the cruciatus curse?'' he asked, his wand now right under my jaw, ''Don't'' I whispered closing my eyes and pushed my head farther into the wall. The word slipped right under his breath, barely vibrating through air, the room fell even more silent than before. My breath hitched and got stuck in my throat as all the thoughts in my head went static and pain ripped from the top of my head to the bottom of my heels, my body stiffened as the curse went through each bone of my body, cracking and bending, my eyes opened but I couldn't even see straight it was too dark after a second my vision went dark and I fell forward, loosing consciousness.
I felt arms around my shoulders and being lifted off the ground, after hearing shoes clicking I relaxed not caring anymore to what happened to me.
Tom Riddle's pov:
I went too far, instant regret blurred my vision as her body fell into my chest. I pulled her limp body over my shoulder, I got her down to the dungeons and put her in her bed, pulling off her boots and putting the satin duvet over her shoulders.
"I'm sorry.'' I whispered still looking at her limp body in her bed, I stepped out of the room and silently pushed the door shut.
After stepping into my own room and shutting the door, I looked around, my desk was filthy, with messy books and papers, caldrons and potion ingredients. I huffed and took my robe off leaving me only in the uniform that's underneath.
I started by putting all of my books in the bookshelf at the corner of the room, I arranged them alphabetically and by topic, the window suddenly flew open and a black owl with green eyes landed on the windowsill with a letter in its beak, my uncle's owl, I snatched the letter, and ripped it open.
"Dear nephew,
Your grandfather has passed away peacefully in his sleep. As I am writing this letter I am moving to the mountains in Georgia to practice potions as a local healer.
The Gaunt manor is now fully yours, Emy the house elf is instructed to keep the manor clean and presentable for when your Christmas break begins.
All the rooms are left just as they are, if you wish you can clear everything out. Good luck and goodbye.
Morfin Gaunt. "
What a pang, I sat down at the edge of my bed, the man who didn't recognise me as a relative until I was accepted in Hogwarts, only then I spent the summers with my uncle and grandfather Marvolo. If he is leaving everything as is maybe there are books in their studies and potion labs that might be useful.
I folded the letter back to the way it was and put it back in the envelope, I picked up some letter paper and wrote don't two words and a signature. "Safe travels.'' I whispered and glued the envelope shut giving it to the owl. It gripped the paper and rushed off as chaotically as possible.
Now being November, the Winter break wasn't as far as I hoped, I kept organizing my room, I poured myself some muggle whiskey and looked around, I was not the one to drink but it was barely midnight and I had to do something with myself, I staired at the door, maybe I should go check on her, see if she's alright. Dolohov usually could handle the curse very well, barely even struggling, but with her I think I overdid it.
The next morning, I woke up and got dressed, I fed a mouse to Nagini and opened the window in case more letters arrive in my absence. Before I went to breakfast, I knocked on Y/N's door to see how she's doing. I held my breath as she swung the door open, and her raged face appeared in the doorway, the was putting pins in her hair. "What?'' she barked looking like she's about to crucify me back.
"I just wanted to check on you. Can I come in?'' I asked as I put my hand on her forearm, her skin so warm and soft, "Don't touch me you psychopath.'' She huffed and pushed herself away from me, my hand feeling colder. "You come near me again and I'll stab you with my shoe.'' She said, eyes furrowed as she pushed past me and left the common room like a storm, she's passionate when she's angry.
