We sprinted into the school through the main door. People dressed in the school uniform were swarming in and out of the halls while others were directing the students and handing out pamphlets. Alisa walked toward the group of people, and I followed close behind. The building seemed like it had a spell on it that made the interior grow wider the farther you traveled. The atmosphere seemed to put me in a trance. It was a mix of a professional atmosphere and an atmosphere typically found in a school. As we got closer to the people passing out pamphlets, I noticed that they were all upperclassman, but what amazed me the most is that they were all featured in the empire's magazine. They were all elite students that specialized in their focus. They are the best professional candidates this school has to offer.
"Welcome to the National Midland School for Magic. Today is your first day here I presume, so I'm just going to tell you the basics. Once I give you this packet, you will need to go through the doors behind me into the lecture hall. In ten minutes, the Headmaster will give the opening speech and go into detail about the school and its expectations. After the speech, every freshman will be lead to the gym to take a test," the elite explained in a hurry.
I looked at Alisa, and her face frowned in confusion. "Test? What test? It's only our first day; they have nothing to test us over. What's it about?" Alisa questioned.
The elite looked at us and said, "If you go to the entrance ceremony, you will know. Now please move along, I have to do my job."
"But...," Alisa started. A look of annoyance came across of the upperclassmen's face. "Never mind, thank you," Alisa finished as she turned toward the lecture hall.
The lecture hall was vast and divided into five sections, and they were all color-coded. Alisa and I took the seats in the far back, but we could see the stage clearly. For the next ten minutes, we talked about our future focus and what classes we wanted to take. We both talked about how we wanted to join the Demon Defense Force (DDF) and become the world's best mages.
After about ten minutes, the lecture hall became loud with enthusiastic voices telling each other their dreams. It seemed like most of the freshmen were here, but the room was barely full. I heard that there were about 500 students joining this year, but compared to the size of the lecture hall, the students occupied only about 20% of the room. The students settled down in their seats and waited impatiently for the ceremony to start.
The lights lowered, and a group of 16 people came onto the stage. The group was made of the elite students, a few teachers, and the Headmaster. The Headmaster walked up to the podium and began his speech.
"Welcome to the National Midland School for Magic or NMSM for short. As you all know, this school is the best magic school in the empire, and I congratulate all of you for making it this far. We have very high standards here, but we will give help for anybody who needs it. Before I get any further into my speech, I will need everyone to look at their pamphlets," the Headmaster said. He chanted something under his breath, and suddenly all of the pamphlets turned into books simultaneously. The room erupted with excitement. This was the first time any of the freshmen have ever seen magic on such a big scale.
"As expected from one of the top mages in the empire," Alisa commented.
The Headmaster continued, "This is the manual describing the rules, conducts, classes, focuses, and tests that are in this school. If you follow them, then there should be no problems." The Headmasters speech went on for about an hour. He highlighted all of the main details of the manual, but he didn't say anything about the tests. He also introduced the elite students and the teachers. All 10 of the elite students were a part of the student council and were expected to help out their fellow students. The 5 teachers were introduced as the "Directors of Focus" and their job was to basically be the main authority in each of the five focus buildings.
"And that wraps up my speech," the Headmaster said with a smile, "You will all now follow the student council to take a test. The test consists of two parts: the interview and the assessment. Good luck!" He walked off the stage and out of the room. The student council members got out of their seats and stepped up to the podium.
