Sleep did not come easily to Alisa nor I. Questions about our next move kept us awake. When I finally went to sleep, I had a dream, or more specifically, a nightmare. In the dream, our parents were fighting against Dain, four against one. The fight was completely one-sided. Dain effortlessly fended off both of our parents as if he was playing with them. When he was tired of playing games, he muttered something I could not comprehend, and my parents were left on the ground. Now on the ground, my parents glared up at the assailant and asked in weak voices, "Who are you?"
Dain let out a low fit of laughter and said in a maniacal voice, "Who? I am someone you know well. I can't believe you don't know. Before I kill you, I guess I'll have to show you who I am." Dain raised his hand to his mask. His finger motioned beneath it and slowly lifted the mask. Before the features of his face peaked out, the dream ended.
The dream forced me awake, and I found myself lying in a cold sweat. 'We have to find our parents soon,' I thought to myself. I sat straight on my bed and peered through the darkness. My gaze found its way to my night stand which had my alarm clock on it. It was six in the morning, so I decided to get up.
I stumbled my way across the room, and by the time I reached the door, I stubbed my toe on countless unnamed items throughout my room. After exiting the bedroom, I made my way to the kitchen. When my trek ended, I found myself hungrily looking at the box of cereal placed on the marble counter. After I made my breakfast, I searched the room in order to find the perfect beverage. My eyes landed on a tall, black box sitting on the corner of the counter. Its paint shined in the artificial light and my face began to appear on its side. The coffee machine was the perfect contraption to make what I wanted, so I began to make my coffee. While I waited for the machine to finish, I opened the fridge to look for my favorite creamer. When I found all of the ingredients, I began to construct my favorite coffee. I added French vanilla flavoring and sugar to an empty cup and mixed them together until the machine signaled it was done. After I finished pouring my coffee, I made my way into the dining room.
Once seated, I began to question myself if Alex was going to show up or not. We needed him to find Dain, but I did not know if he needed us. He could probably find an easier, as well as a safer, way to find Dain and our parents. I hope we persuaded him enough to join our side.
Not too long after I finished my cereal, my mind began to think about the dream I had. I don't have a gage on Dain's power, so I don't know just how powerful he is. My parents, as well as Alisa's, might not be strong enough to defeat Dain. Even though they are the Novem and Decim Magus, they are still in danger. Although we are searching for them, we have no plan on how to stop them; we don't even know where to begin.
As I finished my coffee, Alisa walked into the kitchen wearing her black pajamas. She grabbed a cup of coffee, with nothing added, and sat across from me. "What are you thinking about?" she asked as she sipped her plain coffee.
"I had a nightmare last night about our parents and Dain. It felt so real that I felt like I was there with them, but I don't remember any particular details like where they were. They were fighting, and our parents lost. On the ground, they asked who Dain was. He was about to take off his mask when the dream ended," I explained.
Alisa sipped her coffee and simply said, "That's an omen if I've ever seen one."
We sat in silence for the duration of her coffee. I was lost in thought about Alex, Dain, and my parents while Alisa was lost in her coffee. As if by fate, a knock resounded throughout the house when Alisa finished her coffee. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was 7:30. The knock repeated and Alisa and I made our way to the door.
"I can't believe he's here so early," I said as enthusiastically as I could, even though I was tired.
Alisa was at the door before I was and placed her hand on the knob. The eagerness in her was apparent, but she calmed herself before she opened the door. She shifted her smile into a stoic expression and opened the door when I was beside her.
The wooded door creaked open and let the early morning rays peak in. The sun was slowly rising over the business district, and the town's towers raised proudly from the ground. In front of the view, stood a familiar figure. The figure in front of us was about six feet tall and had light brown hair that complimented its serious, hazel eyes. The figure in front of us was, without a doubt, Alex.
"Why are you so early? You interrupted our beauty sleep," I jested.
Without hesitation, he answered, "Sorry, I can tell you needed it." He flashed a rare smirk and shifted his glance towards Alisa. He asked, "Can I come in?"
"Sure," Alisa said as she motioned him in.
On our way to the dining room table, I mentioned, "You know this is my house right. You should have just asked me." Alex scoffed at my remark, and we continued our way to the dining room table.
When we were all seated, I asked, "So, does this mean you're going to join us?"
Alex adjusted himself and firmly answered, "Yeah."
After he said his answer, another knock rang through the house. I mentioned that I would answer and went to the door. I opened the door to see a bloody figure kneeling at the entrance. He wore all black and I could not see their face. When they saw that the door opened, they raised their eyes to meet mine.
"Michael!" I exclaimed, "What happened to you?!"
Michael coughed and expelled blood. He managed to whisper, "...Help me."
