THE AIR STILLED, moonlight pouring down onto the two figures as a silent staring contest ensued.

"It's really you," The male muttered, his heterochromatic eyes staring intensely.

Confused, the demoness took the silence to examine his features.

He dawned a black and white striped haori over the recognizable attire of the demon slayer corps. His pitch black hair was chopped at a length slightly above his shoulders and his lower face was obscured by a white bandaged mask of some sort.

His sword, that of which seemed to have a rather unusual shape, rested at the side of his waist, strapped to his belt. The most striking feature of his was not any part of himself but rather what he had coiled around his neck.

Asuna's eyes widened upon seeing the familiar sight.

It was a white snake with piercing scarlet eyes. Eyes much like her own when she wasn't parading around as a human.

Ah, she inwardly smiled, I remember now.

This was the boy she had saved in that village hidden in the forest. The one where she let out her pent up rage onto that disgusting snake demon.

"So you survived," she hummed, her hair delicately blowing in the wind, "and I see Kaburamaru is still with you. He's an insightful one."

Despite her rather light comments, she knew the situation was much more serious. She could fool average humans and lower ranked demon slayers by merely hiding her eye color and suppressing her aura.

However, it was clear from the snake slayer's position that they both knew the truth. He must've reached Hashira level.

Obanai felt his hand instinctively touch the hilt of his sword. Being the seasoned demon slayer he was, he had developed a sort of intuition when it came to demons. Kaburamaru also helped in confirming his thoughts.

No doubt, the woman before him was a demon. The woman he had been searching for— the woman who had saved his life and broke him out of that hellish cell... was the very thing he sought to destroy.

It would be a lie to say the thought of Asuna being a demon never crossed his mind. Rather, he forced the issue away claiming that she was just a strong woman passing by who decided to save him. Nothing more, nothing less.

When the master had ordered for a demon named Asuna to be taken into custody, he was overcome with relief. He had no reason to kill her— even if his insides screamed for him to kill the demoness.

He hated her. Moreso he hated that she represented everything he trained to destroy. Why didn't she kill him then? Why not leave him to rot in that cell? Why couldn't she make it easier for him to kill her?

Obanai grit his teeth, drawing his sword.

"Does the sight of me make your skin crawl?" he prodded bitterly, "Does it disgust you to see me become the thing you despise?"
