My heart sunk to my stomach. Battling Abby's Golden Dancer couldn't be a good sign. It was also kind of obvious that Abby's Golden Dancer was Maddie. "Jenna, you and Maddie will be competing against each other this weekend at Energy National Dance Competition in Denver Colorado." I put on a brave face even though I wanted to cry and scream. Maddie's solo was called, 'United' and let me tell you when I saw her dance it was fabulous. I don't mean just regular fabulous I mean fabulous/fantastic/awesome/amazing. That kind of fabulous. The next day was competition day. We were rehearsing, and then Maddie came up to me and whispered, "Good Luck Jenna!" I smiled. Oh my gosh! Madison Zeigler just wished me good luck. Wow! Then we all piled onto the bus. On the way there we played games and told jokes and laughed. We even stopped at Subway on the way. When we got there my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. I also felt like I couldn't breathe. My mom came to me and gave me my costume and told me to go change. I came back and my costume was beautiful. My mom looked at me. "Awh, honey. You look amazing!" I smiled. She did my makeup and told me I was ready to go. I waited in the dressing room and played on my phone until I heard the jaw dropping voice of Abby shout. "All soloists come with me please!" I walked/wobbled with Abby all the way to the stage. Then I was watching all the other girls preform. Then the announcer came on. "Next up is number 185 Maddie Zeigler!" The crowd cheered. Maddie walked onstage with a huge smile on her face. She posed and waited for the music to begin. As the music began she hopped around the stage looking beautiful as always. I stood backstage cracking my fingers. I always cracked my fingers when I was nervous. Maddie did a split leap needle into a front aerial. It was flawless. Absolutely flawless. Then the music came to to a close as Maddie posed again and did the 'Maddie Face' as everyone calls it. It was kind of a pained face. Or at least that's what it looked like to me. Then she walked off stage. I ran up to her and hugged her. "Great job Mads!" I said. She smiled and replied. "Thank You! Good Luck!" I smiled back. The announcer came back on and said, "Now number 242 Jenna Smith!" My heart sunk and my stomach turned into knots. I walked on to the stage and posed. I found Abby and my mom in the audience and smiled at them. Then the music began. I did a front aerial and then a back walkover. I did my leap pass. Everything was perfect. Yes, perfect. P-E-R-F-E-C-T. I posed and even got a standing ovation! I gasped and smiled. Then walked off stage Maddie ran up to me and hugged me. Then I went back to the dressing room and changed. We got ready for the group dance. Then I did my makeup and the next thing I know is were onstage. We preformed the group dance and it was really good. Then it came to awards. We were all dancing on stage and having fun. The lady then came up to the microphone and started talking. "Energy National Dance Competition has been around for 45 years blah, blah, blah...." Then she finally said something interesting. "Alright, now time for group awards. 3rd place. 'Say No More' from OnPointe Dance Academy!" The audience cheered as a girl walked up to get her award. The judge spoke again. "2nd place 'Take The Chance' from the Shooting Star Dance Company!" The crowd cheered. "And in first place, 'I Live The Life' Abby Lee Dance Company!" I smiled as we all stood up and took a bow. Then the judge spoke the terrifying words. "Now time for solo awards! In 3rd place number 567 Crystal from Dance Motion!" The girl looked so excited. I was really happy for her. They were going to announce 2nd place next. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest and my hands were shaking. "2nd place 242 Jenna Smith!" My heart sunk. What?! No NOT SECOND PLACE! I NEED FIRST PLACE! ABBY IS GONNA KILL ME! Then I remembered. Maddie could have not placed! Unfortunately I spoke to soon. "1st place number 185 Maddie Zeigler!" I looked down at the floor. How can this be? I didn't even want to go back to the dressing room. I wanted to run away.
