I DO NOT OWN BRIDGERTON.
Featherington house. London, United Kingdom. 3 days later.
The day after the Trowbridge Ball, I had began to call on Marina everyday. I needed to show that nasty bitch Portia Featherington that i was a serious candidate for her hand so that she would abandon this dark fantasy of marrying Marina off to ugly ol' Rutledge. I just hoped that this would buy Marina enough time to figure out a plan that she was on board with, because I was running low on pounds due to buying her flowers every day.
"Oh, Mr. Bridgerton, these are beautiful." Marina said with a grin as she took the bouquet of yellow roses I had brought her.
"I applaud you, Miss Thompson. I bring you flowers on each of my visits, and yet you react with admirable surprise every time." I quoted from the show as i smiled at her. "I shall need to bring you something unexpected; a bushel of tomatoes, perhaps." This earned a laugh from my intended as Pen started to run interference.
"Marina hates tomatoes." She remarked as her cousin was caught off guard by the remark.
"That is untrue, I love tomatoes." Marina insisted.
"Colin, you know where I have heard you can get excellent tomatoes: Greece." Pen tried again, appealing to Colin's sense of wanderlust. "Perhaps you could bring back a tomato plant for Miss Thompson as a souvenir when you return from your travels this year."
"If I go, i've actually been thinking about maybe delaying them for a while." I replied with a shrug.
"But you were so keen to travel." Pen insisted as Marina gave her a look that said Shut the Hell up.
"I still am, especially around the Mediterranean, but, were I to go, there may be things in London I should miss even more than seeing the world; my family, my friends...I don't feel the need to set any plans in stone just yet." I explained as i held Marina's hand while stealing a glance at Penelope.
"Some tea, Mr. Bridgerton?" Lady Featherington asked, playing the dutiful hostess.
"That would be lovely." I said as I led Marina over to the couch as Penelope got up to complain to her mother about Marina pulling a fast one on me.
"So Mr. Bridgerton, where exactly were you planning to travel?" Marina inquired of me as Mrs. Varley came and handed us each a cup of English tea.
"Well...Greece eould be enjoyable, obviously, but I thought that the Italian peninsula, France, or maybe Prussia might also be a good place to explore." I told her, which wasn't exaxtly a lie. I had always wanted to explore the world outside of New Mexico. That was why I had decided to do college abroad.
"Cela semble merveilleux, en effet." (That sounds wonderful, indeed) she spoke in flawless French as I had damn near forgotten the scene where she spoke French to call out Madame Delacroix on being a con artist.
"Votre français est impeccable, Mademoiselle Thompson." (Your French is flawless, Miss Thompson). I replied as i gently took her hand in mine.
"Lady Featherington is still talking about forcing me to marry that vile beast Rutledge." Marina remarked as she squeezed my hand nervously. I groaned as i was hoping that if i showed Portia that Marina had options, she would find someone else to saddle Marina and her bastard with.
Although, to be fair, that hadn't worked in the show either. Despite Colin's courtship, Portia still tried to push Marina towards Rutledge and only relented when Marina vowed to seduce Colin to pass off the baby as his; and when Rutledge got tired of waiting and found some other poor lass to sink his teeth into.
"Marina...I promise you that I am not going to let that posh bitch pawn you off on that dried up old codger." I insisted as i looked at Marina as she offered me a sad smile. I had hoped that i wouldn't have to go down this route so that i could pursue Penelope early on, but now i knew that there was only 1 way to save Marina and her baby from the dastardly duo of Portia and Rutledge: I had to marry her myself.

St. George's Church. London, United Kingdom. 5 days later.
After dealing with Hasting's reluctance to marry and Queen Charlotte's pettiness at her spurned nephew, the wedding of Duke Simon Basset of Hastings to Daphne Bridgerton finally arrived. I really didn't want to be there, because I was still disgusted with the rapey shit that Daphne was going to pull a couple episodes from now, but I knew that it would raise way too many questions if I was a no show.
So I put on my wedding suit and went to the church along with the rest of the family as Anthony gave Daphne away to Simon; since their father was living impaired. I had to admit that it was a very nice wedding that Lady Danbury had put together for her nephew.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony." The Minister said as he began the ceremony "It is said that marriage hath in it less of beauty but more of safety than the single life."
"Are weddings similar in the future?" Eloise whispered as she sat next to me in the pew.
"Honestly, it depends on the couple." I whispered back as I thought how crazy some people go for their weddings; like Elvis impersonators and shit like that. "Some people go completely overboard with getting married and basically rent out a 3 ring circus."
"In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen. I now pronounce you man and wife." The priest prayed as he wrapped up the ceremony. Daphne and Simon had their wedding kiss as everyone applauded and fawned over the Duke and Duchess of Hastings. They all received congratulations from the entire family as I could feel onlt pity for my new brother in law.
