Even though Aayansh told me I could visit him in the afternoons, I’ve been unable to because shopping and engagement arrangements have kept me utterly busy.

When Ma first approached me to ask me about my preferences about the venue and the menu and the guest lists and our attires, I was afraid it was all just for show and at the end of the day, I’d just be a puppet for them to make me do whatever they could. I was a little apprehensive and scared because with Neil, I had no say in any of these aspects whatsoever.

I’d gotten it all wrong. Ma wasn’t just asking me about my likes and dislikes as a formality. She really cared. When I asked her if it’d be okay to match mine and Aayansh’s outfits on our engagement, I’d held negative hope of her ever agreeing to it. Instead, she’d gotten this glint in her eyes and a jump in her step as she pulled me into a hug with a resounding yes.

The decisions for our special day have more relied on Aayansh and I than our relatives and what they’d think and appearances. I’ve never felt like this before, nor done anything solely for myself. Ever.

And so, while I thought I might fail at it, surprisingly, I’ve not. And I actually enjoyed it. I had fun meeting Ritu, one of Aayansh’s close friends Roshan’s wife who is actually a fashion designer. She created this dress that I’m wearing right now and I’m losing my mind over how graceful it looks on me.

And I’m not ashamed at all to admit I’m craving Aayansh’s reaction to me today.

Just like me, he has also been super busy with meetings and workloads at the office, especially because the board is getting ready for his transition as the CEO and also sad about Papa’s retirement. And yet, he has always taken time out of his schedule whenever we called him for his inputs and ideas. And dear has he replied ever so enthusiastically.

I bite my lip as I look at my reflection in the mirror. I look. . . stunning. My lehenga is made of a sheer, lightweight purple netted chiffon, the intricate floral embroidery visible, adding to the occassion of the day. My blouse looks elegant with a deep neckline and long, netted sleeves, showcasing my shoulders. Ritu has draped the dupatta over my shoulder, further enhancing the ensemble.

My hair is let down, tiny flowers clipped throughout the short length of my hair and the most minimal, yet elegant makeup uplifting my face, letting my gorgeous dress take the centre-stage. The embroidery work truly adds another dimension, possibly with silver or gold threads creating a shimmering effect.

I’ve never known I could look so beautiful. But then again, I’ve never felt as happy as I’ve been in the past week. Everything feels so darn right that I’m afraid I’ll myself jinx it.

Shaking my thought at the ridiculous thought, I lean forward to grab the kohl stick just as the door to my room opens and Ma and Janki stick their heads in.

“Can we come in?” Janki asks, giddy excitement in her voice.

I meet their eyes through the mirror in front of me and nod as both of them pile into my room, instantly oohing and aahing about just how well Ritu has handled my styling.
