For too long, I’ve let my husband's family control me but I think I've had enough now. It's true that I'm incapable of doing anything on my own alone right now because I have no funds or support but on my way back to Veer bhai's room, I hear him talking to Aayansh and it's like all the puzzles fall into place for me.

When Veer Bhai told me about the pictures of my crying surfacing on the internet, it was like the ground breaking from between my feet. I hadn't realised the paps surrounded the Rajan's mansion all the time but when he went to get his phone and show me the articles, they'd all mysteriously disappeared. I believe it's probably the Rajan's behind it because to them, their reputation matters more than anything and watching pictures of their house's daughter-in-law crying on their front porch step and running in the streets like a mad woman is more than enough of an insult.

And I find it highly amusing how a person of their own family doesn't matter to them as much as the hundred other unknown people who get paid to write stories about them. That family is unreal.

And so, when I told my brother I was going to go back to Neil's house, it wasn't because he's my husband and I've to go back. I had lied and told him I was crying because I hurt myself while cooking something and needed fresh air. I don't think he believed it but he didn't question it either, knowing I wouldn't reply anyway.

And the moment I left, Aayansh glared at me and went into Bhai's room.

And now, as I walk back from getting myself a coffee from the canteen downstairs, I can hear Aayansh say to my brother, “My resources have told me that. He's dealing with the drugs and they've been misplaced. The batch that was supposed to reach Russia hasn't arrived yet. If we can figure out where the substances have gone and get our hands on them before him, I will destroy him within seconds. You know that.”

My brother nods. His larger hair falls over his shoulder, his stubble that he usually tries to keep light has now grown, making him look like some rugged don. My uncle has told him multiple times to get rid of his longer hair but he's always refused to cut them short. I swear, my brother is a drama queen but now that he sits upright in his hospital bed, a medical gauze wrapped around his head, his hands folded against his chest as he nods his head thoughtfully, he looks more of the ruthless businessman I've never once seen. "Any idea how we can find out when and where those shipments are?"

What catches my eyes is Aayansh. Even though his back is to me, his entire presence exhilarates me. I'm standing right behind the hospital room's door and all I'm thinking about is how Aayansh looks right now. He came in quite late after he dropped me in front of the hospital and when he did come, he glared at me like I did something awfully wrong. I don't understand the words he says and the reactions he expresses. They mess with my head.

Like acid churning in my stomach, I remember the party I went to that Aayansh organised. The party where I embraced my thirty minutes of freedom and made reckless decisions. The party where I looked Aayansh dead in his eyes and gulped down a shot. Without using my hands.
