Scarlynn paced through her new mansion, her heels clicking against the marble floor with an eerie precision. The place was a perfect reflection of her—elegant, but with an undercurrent of darkness, a luxurious shell hiding her true nature. She had only just gotten settled, yet her mind was already brimming with plans, schemes, and the satisfaction of finally having Katherine—her new little pawn—right where she wanted her.
Katherine stood near the window, her arms crossed, clearly trying to mask her unease with a facade of defiance. She had spent centuries being the one to control, to manipulate. Now, it was Scarlynn's turn to flip the script.
"So," Scarlynn began, her voice dripping with amusement, "you're probably wondering why you're still here. Why I haven't killed you yet. You're welcome, by the way."
Katherine's lips curled in a thin line. "I'm not your plaything. If you think for one second I'm going to bow down to you—"
"Bow down? No, no. You're not going to bow," Scarlynn interrupted, her smirk widening. "But you will be playing a very important role in my game. And trust me, you're going to enjoy it. Eventually."
Katherine shot her a skeptical glance. "And what role is that exactly? Because I can promise you, I'm not interested in being your... puppet."
Scarlynn laughed, the sound rich and full of dark amusement. "Oh, honey, you already are. You just don't know it yet." She walked closer, her heels clicking louder with each step. "You see, I have a brother. His name's Silas. He's been looking for something for centuries. What is it, you ask? Well, a reunion with his beloved Amara. The woman he's been obsessed with for as long as he's been alive. But, and this is where you come in, Katerina... I think you might make a perfect stand-in."
Katherine's eyes narrowed. "I'm not Amara," she said, her voice defensive. "I don't know anything about her. I don't even know what she looked like!"
Scarlynn's eyes gleamed with malicious glee. "Good thing I'm here then, isn't it? I'll give you dopplelessons. You'll become Amara, at least in his eyes. That's the beauty of it. You're not her, but you look like her. You'll be the one who haunts his every waking moment. You'll be his biggest regret. His every hope for death, for reunion with Amara, will be wrapped up in you."
Katherine shook her head. "I'm not doing this. I won't be part of your sick little game."
"Oh, I'm not asking for permission," Scarlynn retorted with a sly grin. "I'm telling you. You're going to help me break Silas's heart. Over and over again. And if you're lucky, you might even enjoy it."
Katherine took a cautious step back, but Scarlynn was already on the move. In the blink of an eye, she was in front of her, forcing Katherine to meet her eyes. The power in Scarlynn's gaze was undeniable, and for a moment, Katherine's resistance wavered.
"You see," Scarlynn continued, her voice dangerously calm, "Silas isn't obsessed with you, Katerina. He's obsessed with dying—so he can be reunited with Amara. He thinks that if he dies, she'll be waiting for him. But that's just a delusion. He's been chasing that delusion for centuries, all for nothing. And you? You're going to be his latest hope. His greatest mistake."
Katherine frowned, still not fully understanding. "And you want me to do this because...?"
"Because I'm bored," Scarlynn said with a chuckle. "I'm tired of Silas and his tragic little 'I want to die and be with Amara' act. He's had centuries to get over it, and yet here he is, still obsessed with a woman who's been dead for who knows how long." She stepped back, her eyes twinkling with delight. "But this? This will be fun. I get to make him fall in love with you, all over again, except—he'll never be able to have you. You're not her, and you never will be."
