Monsters

There are a few types of monsters in minecraft. Most (or all?) have drops which have different functions.

ZOMBIE-A hostile mob that looks like Steve (normal skin) but its head and arms are green. It's eyes are black but these are not important. You can easily recognise a zombie once you see it. It is a melee mob, and takes away about 2 hearts when you are without armour. Armour will be said in chapters later. Drops rotten flesh. Rotten flesh is edible but you have a high chance of getting the Hunger effect from eating it. Effects are mentioned later too. Zombies burn in the sunlight. They may be randomly be found in random places as long as the place is dark.

SKELETON-A hostile mob that just looks like a regular skeleton that has black eyes too. It carries a bow, which means that it is a range mob, shooting arrows at you. The skeleton shoots the arrows rather slowly, which an interval of a few seconds. You should be able to kill it very easily in close range. Drops bones and arrows. Arrows can be used with the bow, in range combat. Bones can be used to craft bonemeal. Bonemeal allows you to grow plants quickly, making it useful for planting. Planting is mentioned later on. Same like the zombie, they burn in the sunlight.

ENDERMAN-A hostile mob... Actually not exactly hostile until you look at it directly in the eye or you hit it. It is three blocks high and it's legs and arms are long. Its body is black and its eyes purple. It usually has some purple aura flying around it. It also has the ability to teleport, which happens sometimes when you look at it in the eye, or hit it, or when it touches the water. When you hit or look directly at an idle enderman, they become hostile. Endermen hate water as it hurts them. They are rather tough. When you kill an enderman, you get ender pearls. Ender pearls have a special ability. When you throw the pearl, it will teleport you to where it lands. Endermen may randomly pick up already put objects. However, you will not get the object it is holding when you kill it. There is not really anything to the block, just some random thing it found. Endermen do not burn in the light, but they practically disappear(teleport to somewhere else) once it is dawn.

SPIDER-A hostile mob. It has glowing red eyes actually, while its body is black. It is one block tall but is two blocks wide. Do note that it can climb walls, so you need to make a roof for your house in case one attacks you. It is only hostile during the night, in the day it is neutral, just wandering around. It will ignore you at this time but it will still attack you if you hit it. Spiders drop spider eye and string. Spider eye is practically useless but they can be used for potions. Potions may be mentioned later on. String is useful for making bows.

CAVE SPIDER-I have not really encountered any of these, and although I did encounter a spider in the cave, it was more like a normal one. However, I have found that they exists in dark mineshafts. Just note that it is more dangerous and can poison you. Poison is a factor of effects.

CREEPER-Pratically the only hostile mob that is not reactive to light. It is rather dangerous, and while I find them cute, they may just sneak up and blow up on you. Yes, they explode. They are more like walking TNT. TNT may be mentioned later on. These stuff are green and has a mournful face. It has a blocky face, a long neck with of smaller length and four legs. These stuff will detect you from a distance away and run up to you. Before it blows up, you shall hear a sizzling sound, and it will start to swell up. In this case, if you do not have a weapon, run. With a long range weapon, a now, you can kill it from afar. With a short range weapon, a sword or practically nothing which I do not recommend, you can hit it until you hear the noise. Then, move backwards. Note that its activation will stop if you get further away, so the sizzling will stop and no explosion will occur if you are far away enough. Continue until it dies. Creepers have a chance of dropping gunpowder, which can be crafted with sand, (crafting will be mentioning later) to make TNT. Creepers drop a music disc when killed by a skeleton. A skeleton should kill it with its arrow when it is in the line of fire.
