If you know everything about your controls, skip this chapter.
W for walk forward, S for down, D for right, and A for right. Double hit W and hold to sprint. Do note that sprinting decreases your hunger quickly while I adventure and survival mode, and that your sprint stops if you run into a wall or an obstacle.
E to open inventory. In creative mode, it will reveal an array of item selections which you can choose. There are building blocks, decorations blocks, combat, tools, etc. sections. As for adventure and survival, the menu gives you items you are carrying. You should have nothing when you create a new world. There are 36 slots in total-including 9 in the bottom which are separated by the other 27 with a line to show the ones which you can access to use. You can move the things around by left clicking an item and moving it to a place where you desire. Left click again to place the stack onto the desired slot. Right click to put one piece to the stack onto the slot. Right clicking a stack of objects on a slot while not holding anything with your mouse lets you hold half of the stack.
There are a few ways to select the item to hold in the nine slots in the bottom of the screen. You can either scroll, or press the number for it. (Ex. Press 5 for the fifth slot from the left).
If you want to move an item from a chest to your inventory quickly, click the item in the chest while holding the left shift button. Same for putting stuff into chests. These controls applies for furnaces and dispensers too.
In your survival inventory, above the 36 slots, there is a figure of your character. It will keep looking at you mouse. To the left of the character is four slots with a particular picture in it. The top one features a head, where you can put helmets and masks in. Mentioned in combat. The one below it lets you put chestplates, the next the leggings, and the lastly, the boots. To the right of the figure is a 2x2 box which is your basic crafting box. It shall be emphasised in basic survival later.
Space to jump, left click to destroy a block, right click to place a block you are holding OR use an object you are holding (Ex.Eating) OR activate an object you are looking at (Ex. Opening a crafting table)
Escape to go to menu. While in single player, doing this pauses the game.
Pressing Shift while in play mode allow you to sneak. While sneaking, you have a bending down animation and if you walk while holding shift you will walk slowly without making sounds. You will also not fall off a block if you sneak to the edge of the block.
There are four difficulties-Peaceful, easy, normal and hard. Peaceful means no hostile mobs at all unless you spawn them with spawn eggs. Easy enables mobs, but they are killed easily. Normal mode strengthens them and enables them to have certain abilities-Cave spiders can poison you, etc. Hard mode is normal mode itself but the mobs are evidently a lot stronger. Can be accessed by Escape (Menu)>Options>Difficulty.
