"Jack Daniels. On the rocks." I snapped at the bartender.
"Wow. Someone's a little ray of sunshine today." Ed smirked.
I glared at him. "Don't mess with me today."
"Why? What happened?" said Kenley. I couldn't glare at him while he looked at me so innocently so I turned back to glaring at the bartender.
"I am guessing she finally found her match at High school, Kenley" smirked Chris. Ed laughed and they both hi-fived. I huffed and reached for the drink that the bartender had hurriedly left for me. I took a long gulp and felt the strong taste. Immediately, I felt better. Looks like I was going to be wasted today.
"So you gonna tell us who we got to thank for this?" said Ed. They took seats on the high chairs beside me and ordered drinks.
"Just...the usual High school crap." I shrugged.
Ed smirked, "Tired already? I remember I graduated easily." He sounded smug. I shot him a dark look.
Chris laughed. "Easily? It took three broken teeth and a broken leg to convince the teachers that you would graduate."
Kenley and Chris laughed boisterously and I gave a grudging smile. Ed scowled and playfully punched Chris on his stomach. Chris groaned and set his drink on the counter.
"Anyways, isn't there a gang meet today?" I said.
I changed the topic so that the boys don't get into a full fledged fight. It almost always ends with the entire club cheering them on and a bloody nose. Although, at the end they just hug each other and order more drinks. In this, I won't pretend to understand boys even though these are my best friends.
"Yeah." said Chris, as he shot Ed a dirty look. "Already ended. We had the meeting when you were at school learning geography." The boys laughed again and hi-fived each other as I scowled at them.
"Funny." I snapped. "And what was decided?"
Chris took a long gulp and set down the empty tumbler. "We attack. Tonight. The Silver Bullet's usually have a regular visit to their godown on Gartner Road. We'll settle everything there." Ed and Chris smirked in anticipation. Kenley didn't look bothered. He kept siping his drink in dignified silence.
"All right. I'll get my gun." I said jumping off the stool.
"Don't bother. Here, I have two." said Kenley as he passed me one. It was silver with carvings along it's handle. I stashed it in my jacket.
"Moreover, you should stay here." said Chris.
"Why?" I said.
"Because Jake heard some rumours about you." said Ed, his face grim.
Shock coursed through me.
Of course, he had heard. I had never hoped to hide it from him.
Then, why was I scared?
"All right. Chris, you will lead them through the north side of the godown. Ed, you'll take them through the back. I'll lead the rest through the front entrance of the godown. Everyone got it?" said Jake.
There were a lot of murmurs of assent.
"Alex, you're riding with me." he said. I nodded and walked over to him.
He hadn't said a word. Not a single word. And that was exactly what was scaring the crap out of me.
Doesn't he know all about Ned? Even if Ned's rumoured to be my fake boyfriend, Jake would usually go bonkers at such incidents. The last time a guy had flirted with me at a gang party, well... since then, he hadn't been seen around. So the only thing that made sense was that Jake had no clue. I could live with that.
Smiling at my new hypothesis, I sat behind Jake on his bike. Everyone moved to their bikes and kicked them to a start. The bikes came to life with a roar and soon everyone was ready to leave. I wrapped my arms around Jake. I sighed, as I felt the familiar texture of his leather jacket. I leaned into his back and took a deep breathe. It felt nice after the crappy day I had had today.
"You ready, babe?" said Jake as he turned a little towards me.
"Always am." I said.
He laughed and tucked my hands all the more closer to him. A blush crept on to my face. The bike came to life with a roar and we zipped out of the garage with the others right behind us.
A cool breeze blew through the strands of my hair and empty roads greeted us as we took the highway. And just like that, I felt all my frustration and anger fade away.
Heck, I was most probably made just for this life.
