I woke up, bleary eyed and tired off my ass. My arms and legs ached as if they had participated in an all-night dance off.

Big surprise.

I hadn't had a proper nap since a long time. Nightmares ravage my sleep every time I hit the sack. I wasn't surprised to feel my arms protest as I tried to prise out of the tangle of blankets.

Opening an eye, bright sunlight blinded me and immediately, I shut my eye again. I cursed out loud and scrunched my face in disgust. Apparently, my early morning holy words proved to be a signal that I was awake.

"Miss Alexis, get up please. Master Gomez said that you go to school" I heard a shrill, cheery voice nearby.

I half opened an eyelid slowly and stared blearily at Hobson. "Noo, Hobson. You know I like to sleep late. Just five minutes. Pleeasse" I whined as I closed my eyes and buried myself more in the blanket.

I heard her sigh "Miss, Master is waiting at the breakfast table. He says you come fast fast"

I didn't bother to reply and turned to a cosier spot on my bed.

It was quiet for a moment and a less sleepy part of my brain wondered where she had gone. It wasn't like Hobson would ever give up in doing her duty.

Since the time I was three, Hobson was always there to make sure I ate my veggies and didn't flush them down the toilet. I used to fight with her a lot but eventually, she would be the one who would come knocking on my door with a tub full of Ben and Jerry's ice cream when I was down in the dumps.

I have a good rapport with her even though, Sam always refers to her as "one of the housekeeping staff". The others and she never mind that but it made me mad to see the inhuman way with which Sam and his rich visitors treat them. In a way, Hobson and the others here are my family. Because my real family isn't fit enough to be called that.

"Miss, I give you last warning. You get out of bed now else Master Gomez will be angry" she was trying to sound strict, her shrill voice rising by an octave. She couldn't have failed any more miserably at it. She's like a big old softie bear at heart, always standing up for me in front of Sam.

I snorted and muttered "let him kiss my ass" sleepily. I pulled my blanket closer as I was on my way to completely zone out again.

SPLASH!!

“AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!” I screamed.

I sat up immediately, spluttering and spitting wet strands of hair out of my mouth. She had poured fricking cold water on me! I glared at her as I threw my dripping wet blanket off me.

"What the hell, Hobson? You could have just told me to wake up!" I screeched, my voice rising steadily.

"I did miss, but you weren’t listening" she was smiling at me.
