Ned's POV
You know that feeling you get when for a moment everything seems right in your world? When the sun seems to be lighting up your life and things are just perfect and that it seems that nothing can go wrong? And you feel like you are walking in the clouds, just perfectly happy and content? Most probably, you feel like just freezing time and living the perfect moments over and over again.
That's exactly how I was feeling when I reached school this morning. Finally, everything seemed great. I am on my way to becoming the class valedictorian. My football match next month will be attended by college scouts and Coach had confided in me that my dream college scouts, Brown University, would be there.
My relationship with my girlfriend, Summer Meyers, had just taken a new path. I was invited to dinner with her parent's tomorrow evening and we were both nervous. We wanted it to work out and she couldn't be any more perfect for me.Life was finally going perfect.
I should have known better. There's always a 'but' in such situations. And that 'but' just strolled through the library towards me a few moments ago. And, it couldn't have been any more troublesome.
Alexis Gomez.
The rebel.
The rule breaker.
The school delinquent.
I knew her well enough. The entire school knows her very well. And with good reason too. A few years back, she was a good student here. Then, something happened. There were many rumours going around. But I had never paid any attention to the rumours. After all, they never turn out to be right. All I knew now was that she had taken a one eighty turn. Now, you are better off not messing with her.
I knew the moment she walked into the library that she was looking for me. Don't ask me why but I just did. It was a churning feeling in my guts. But before I could dive under the table and hide, she spotted me and flashed me an evil smile. She strolled over confidently and then, flopped on the chair in front of me. I kept my eyes locked on the book in front of me, hoping to God that she would get the hint.
"Wazzup?" she drawled, clearly uninterested to be here.
I raised my eyebrows in disbelief but kept my eyes trained on the book. What is wrong with this girl? How can she ask me such a demented question so casually? And Why? Why is SHE here? Am I her next kill job? Or maybe, she needs to kidnap some High school guy. I decided to ignore her. However, like the good-mannered idiot I am, I had to reply the question.
"I am fine, thank you" I said, my voice polite and neutral.
She snorted in a very un-ladylike way. My eyebrows and astonishment couldn't have gone any higher. I was now thinking of ways to bolt out of here. Maybe I could fling my thick book on her and make my gateway. But then, I looked at the book in my hand.
Calculus.
Nope. I can't do this to my favourite subject.
And then, I heard the sound which subconsciously, I was dreading all along.
The click of a gun.
I raised my head so fast that I probably cricked my neck. I shuffled my legs in fear, the old library chair making a loud creaking noise. Now, I couldn't keep my eyes of the gun anymore. This is it. This is the last thing I will be doing before I die. Staring at my murderer in a dusty, old library surrounded with nothing but advanced Calculus books. I should have been with Summer in the cafeteria, hanging out with my friends. Just my luck. The one day I decide to catch up on studies during lunch, that's the day the Devil decides to visit me.
