After the meal broke up, Ren Qiubo immediately went to the Grain Bureau to talk to Station Chief Wang, hoping to directly cut off Lu Feng's ability to cash out.
This was his Achilles' heel. As long as the grain station made things difficult for him and delayed a few days, his cash flow would be tightly squeezed.
Station Chief Wang looked at him, smelling of alcohol, then glanced at the materials Ren Qiubo had gathered, and laughed it off. Lu Feng's grain sales to the grain station were legal and compliant, so there was no reason for him to make things difficult.
Station Chief Wang also sensed something was off but didn't take action. He didn't want to risk anything. Moreover, the grain station had been reformed and was no longer based on grain but had slowly shifted to a market mechanism. The grain warehouse was so big that it wouldn't miss a single Lu Feng.
The next morning, with the commission raised to three cents, a long queue formed again in front of Lu Feng's workshop, showing a bustling scene.
All the stock that had been accumulated was loaded onto trucks. In recent days, goods had been tight, and big trucks were prioritized for loading. It was difficult to get deliveries if only a few boxes were needed.
But today, no matter how many, everything had to be shipped.
"Boss, Zhou Hao and those people said to give them priority for loading," Da Tou ran over and said.
"Tell them to wait in line, we're treating everyone equally from now on, understood?"
"Lots of people are saying you hit Zhou Hao's wife in the market, and it's caused a stir. They're saying you two have a grudge now. Just now someone started saying that if we don't load the goods for them, they'll go elsewhere."
Lu Feng snorted and lit a cigarette, saying nothing.
Han Dong walked over, squatted beside Lu Feng, and whispered, "Boss Lu, have you heard? Wanyuan Food Factory started producing our kind of canned goods today. It's been really popular, but everyone's coming to us since we give a three-cent commission."
"Not just that, there are four or five other workshops," Da Tou added.
"Three cents? That's too much," Han Dong muttered. "We should go back to two cents."
"Two cents? Are you crazy?" Lu Feng replied. "The easy days of making money are over. Prices will fluctuate wildly, maybe even go up to four cents today. Those big trucks are unreliable; they can leave whenever. Small wholesale will still go, and as for those small workshops, I don't need to do anything. Ren Qiubo will take care of them."
"But the profit's really dropped. Local fruits have gone up in price, and giving them such a big cut..." Da Tou said, a bit helpless.
"This is nothing. In large-scale business competition, millions or even billions can be spent in an instant. Once a commercial empire is built, it's all about burning money. Even with billions, you'll just be cannon fodder."
Billions?
Cannon fodder?
Da Tou and Han Dong were stunned. Right now, no one in the country had billions, and they couldn't imagine that kind of situation.
Lu Feng knew the market competition had already started. When Ren Qiubo blocked him, it was already destined to lead to this situation. Sure enough, at 1 p.m., Wanyuan raised its commission to three cents and five mill.
Big trucks disappeared from the workshop, leaving only small vendors who loaded a few vegetables, fruits, and cans to sell.
The goods began to pile up again. Da Tou was anxiously running around, and the workers were also confused, secretly muttering if the business was going to go bankrupt.
"Boss, Zhou Hao and his people have all left. They're so ungrateful. They called me brother all the time, but now they've all run away for just five cents of profit," Da Tou cursed.
Lu Feng smiled when he saw his frustration. People often say friends made through drinking and eating are unreliable, but these guys hadn't even shared the drinks and food, yet dared to call him brother. They were just naive.
"Boss, how can you still laugh?"
"Can worrying solve the problem? It's better to laugh!" Lu Feng looked at the small vendors around, secretly thinking that Ren Qiubo must have some backup plan.
The grain station was still collecting grain in the morning, which meant he hadn't cut off Wang Station Chief's line. This reassured Lu Feng.
At the Wanyuan factory, in the factory director's office, Ren Qiubo sat in a wide boss chair. Behind him was a brush-painted calligraphy saying "Wealth flows in" with a bit of luxury to it.
Across from him sat Zhou Jianguo and Sun Longbin. Zhou Jianguo spoke first, "Ren, you're rich and powerful, with just one move, you took him down. He's just a fraudster, I can't believe I called him my brother."
"Yeah, who is he to compare with Ren? Even if Ren just pulled a hair out, it'd be thicker than his legs."
"Absolutely, it was only a matter of time before he went bankrupt!" Wu Hongyu, standing nearby, gritted his teeth. "A guy like Lu Feng was just lucky, and now his luck is over. I heard the trucks coming to his place have stopped."
Ren Qiubo listened to the praise with enjoyment, but he was also an experienced person who knew one thing: even when fighting a rabbit, use all your strength. He looked at Zhou Jianguo and asked, "He used your family's house, right?"
"Yes!"
"He took advantage of you like this, and you still let him use your house? That's too much," Ren Qiubo said.
Zhou Jianguo immediately became furious and stood up, shouting, "I'm going to kick him out right now, damn it, this is my house, you know?"
Da Tou stood up and said, "How can you talk to your brother like this? You agreed to let him use the house for free."
"Get the hell out of here, what brotherhood? I'm telling you, if he doesn't move out by tomorrow morning, don't blame me for not being polite."
"Did Ren Qiubo send you here?" Lu Feng asked.
Zhou Jianguo was about to say yes, but Sun Longbin quickly interrupted, "No, he's just asking for his own house back. You're occupying it illegally, you know?"
"I'm not leaving. What are you going to do? You agreed verbally, right? Feel free to sue me!" Lu Feng sneered. "And if you try anything else, bring it on."
"Fine, don't take me lightly. If anything happens, don't blame me!" Zhou Jianguo said coldly.
"No problem, whatever happens, it's on you. I'll pay five thousand to break your leg. You think it's too much?" Lu Feng said with a smile, but the smile made Zhou Jianguo's skin crawl. Even under the scorching sun, cold sweat dripped down his back.
Five thousand?
Enough to do it, and the price was even a bit frightening.
"You wait!" Zhou Jianguo threatened and stormed off.
On the way back, Sun Longbin grumbled, "So arrogant, he used to be just our lackey, and now he's got to be taught a lesson. Let's find someone!"
"Find someone?!" Zhou Jianguo yelled. "If he dares to say he'll pay five thousand to break your leg, I'll find someone, but damn it, you've pushed me too far!"
Sun Longbin didn't speak anymore because Lu Feng really could take out five thousand, and now they were no longer in a position to fight him.
